Going from chapter 699 to 700 felt very surreal. The rookie 9 went from a bunch of immature teens to responsible adults with kids, beautiful women like Kurenai and Anko withered with age, powerhouses like Gai and Kakashi looked a shadow of their former selves, reduced to reminiscing about past glories. Friends of those once immature-teens had long since parted (Neji). And then it hit me. This is what's waiting for us all in the future.
I'm sure we all have one or two friends who are young and don't have a care in the world at the moment. No responsibilities, lots of free time to do what they want. Hooking up with whoever they want, partying whenever they want. 10 years down the line that guy's probably going to be doing a 9 to 5, settled down with a wife and kids. When he was young he said he'd never do it. But things change.
That 30-something year old milf living next door to you will be old, wrinkly and sagging before you know it. Friends will die, family will die. Some of us will become hardened with age, remember that idealistic outlook you had on life at 16? Well guess what? 30 year old you doesn't think like that anymore. And now it's you who has to come to grips with technology, while for your kids it's as easy as pie.
Some will realise all of their wishes, others will be thinking of what could have been. The good things is that right now, we're all in control of our own futures. Just make sure you keep your hand on the wheel.
