Did Madara ever actually care about peace

Considering his recent revelations about being the one behind Rin's death, as well as him saying that he turned Obito evil basically because Obito was kind and he was a jerk, was the whole world peace explanation genuine, or merely a lie to further manipulate Obito to follow him?

Yeah, especially considering the Sage basically confirmed that those place in the IT are slowly killed by it. Honestly, Madara only seems to care about power at this point.

At what point did anyone truly think it was about peace for Madara? We knew he was manipulative, and he was patient. To use another Uchiha (who he knew about the power of hatred) he basically guaranteed not only a powerful pawn, but a devoted one.

Simply too big a plot twist, the IT and Madara as a character were introduced at the very end of the manga, having it be the center of the entire franchise would really throw the entire franchise to this point right out the window.
