Recall how no one respected Gaara at the Five Kage Summit? Especially the Ay, Danzo and Ohnoki. Naruto tried to approach Ay about Sasuke and Ay yelled him down as being nothing more than a child.

Age has nothing to do with becoming a Kage.

But it does have to do with Leadership. Naruto would be head of the village and would dictate all the decisions that happen in and out of it. 17 year old Naruto doesn't have the maturity to do that. Gaara is different because he was appointed because the Sand Village literally had no one else who could defend the village after they lost the 4th Kazekage.

As leadership goes I definitely agree with you but I suppose you would have to be pretty strong too considering you're "suppose" to be the best ninja of your village.

We typically don't see intellectuals being in the Kage seat for some reason.

Shikamaru is to lazy and weak to be Hokage. He's much better as an advisor to the Hokage, like his father before him. Naruto has the acknowledgment of the entire village and his status as a hero (of Konoha and the world) backing him. This clears him over the hurdle of getting the Daimyo's vote and council of Jonin's vote to support his appointment. Even though all he needs is the go ahead from the previous Kage.


Danzo muscled his way in during a time of heightened crisis and fear. And with Tsnuade being MIA, he could twist the council to support his appointment.

Orochimaru had Hiruzen's favor but when he saw the darkness in his heart, he changed to Minato. Plus someone like Orochimaru would've never been acknowledged by the village. Only Danzo supported Oro becoming Kage over Minato.

Madara was almost Kage, but threw it away because he didn't have the support of the villagers and his own ambitions clouded his judgement.

Lord Kakashi downgraded himself to be suited for that lame job. He was overqualified to be a hokage so he had to compromise his Sharingan.

Kakashi was the First Hokage in the leaf to have someone stronger than Him work for Him in Naruto. Normally the Hokage is the strongest but in the 4 Shinobi war Naruto became the strongest Ninja of all time so when Kakashi became Hokage He was not the strongest in the Village instead it was Naruto.

Jiraiya was stronger than Tsunade when she became Hokage. Well considering Jiraiya refused to take the job she was the second best.
