3 Tomoe Sharingan is diluted Sharingan. Hagoromo probably didn't have that, though he does have the Sharingan's power. The 6 tomoe Rinnegan can use the Sharingan's power, which Hagoromo gave to Sasuke as stated in the databook. Rinne Sharingan, as stated in the manga and databook, can be awoken when one possess two Rinnegan and approaches the moon. Last time I checked, Hagoromo is the true wielder of the Rinnegan and the moon is what he created. So he does have the Rinne Sharingan and 6 Tomoe Rinnegan, why in the world would he need a weak Sharingan of his descendants, when he has the real thing.

Anyway, what I'm telling you is it clearly states that the sharingan is the origin of the rinnegan. How he acquired it is another matter that is largely irrelevant in this case.

Obviously, the rinnegan is the combination of Uchiha and Senju chakra, which is combined and plainly otsutsuki chakra. We do know, however, based on what we've seen, that some form or aspect of death is needed for the Rinnegan. The Rinnegan isn't an eye that you just poof bam and behold. It came from something, like all things do. And to stretch, based on how Kinshki and Ole dude acted, the Rinnegan, although he had two on his palms, is a rarer dojutsu even among them, meaning not everyone can get it, like the mangekyo or ems.

How Sharingan is the origin of Rinnegan as both of eyes doesn't share a similarity? Rinnegan is clearly a hybrid or new kind of eyes.

The Rinnegan that Madara and Sasuke awakened came from the combination of Ashura and Indra's chakra and Hagoromo's chakra is the origin of both chakra. Hagoromo's Rinnegan doesn't came from Ashura and Indra chakra but from Kaguya's Rikudou Chakra, Otsutsuki chakra and natural selection among other producing this special eyes. The logical deduction. Clearly we cant use the same logic to Hagoromo.

So unless you can uncover the mystery behind Hagoromo's Rinnegan we cant pointed out the actual thing that happen prior the awakening.

Well, BZ did say Hagoromo awakened the Rinnegan. So, he had to have something prior to it.

@Bold: Not necessarily. Rinnegan is an independent dojutsu from the sharingan. Case in point: Momoshiki did not have sharingan, but he had rinnegan.

All you need to awaken rinnegan is the right type of chakara (whether that is Hagoromo's (or Indra's + Asura's ) chakara, or chakara from a fruit like Momoshiki.

OT: No Hagoromo did not canonically have sharingan. I do agree that it would make sense logically for him to have had it, but nevertheless he did not canonically have it.

Hagoromo still needed something prior to awakening rinnegan, but he could've just had regular eyes. I just entertained the idea of him having the Sharingan, so it's only harmless speculation, my friend.

I already know this.

Chances are Rikudou was born with it and split it into indra and asura inheritances and indra recieved the spiral eye of hagoromo forehead . Indra was stated to gain the "eyes" = All ocular powers while asura = body = senjutsu and the like so them combined creates rinnegan
