If it is connected logically later on it is possible, I'd say.
But usually only bad comes out of it - the public is not pleased and then just suck it up after provided explanation.
I think it would be more effective if Tsuki no me is accomplished now because everyone expects that Naruto and Sasuke as main characters won't die and good will prevail. But what if it doesn't? The idea is quite interesting, breaking common sense.
I also believe that what would work for the manga at best is ending it in a neutral state, that is - there are no true winners, nor losers. That is the world Madara desired. If the concept doesn't exist there would be no fighting.
It would also not turn the whole series into a cliché shonen such as Bleach.
