Why didn't Madara and Obito wipe out the alliance instead of going for "the mind". I know it's plot but it's seems kinda strange because they could just wipe out the alliance easily and be done with it instead of wasting time attacking Shikaku and the others.

By wiping out the "mind" they leave the alliance in chaos. Or that was the idea anyway.
Also if they fired right at the alliance they'd be in the blast radius of the bijuu dama as well.

...why doesn't madara & Obito combine jutsus while the jubi is attacking the alliances.... Then that will make one friggin big explosions *KABOOOOM!!* and then half alliances are dead, wouldn't that be easier??
