Yes, that's my absolute favorite punishment ;) Been a while since I made someone do it, it brought me back the years, I thank you for that :)

Okay now, the second method of release is pain. Tell me all about it, how it works, what it does, advantages, disadvantages, etc etc

Glad I could be of use xD

The pain release method is the most dangerous yet my favourite method of dealing with Genjutsus. It relies on inflicting a sharp enough level of pain to corresponding to the rank of the Genjutsu used. It works similar to a chakra surge, causing a disturbance in the user's own body to purge foreign chakra and re-awaken their senses. Similar to chakra surges, the higher ranked the genjutsu is, the more pain the user will have to inflict on themselves. From my own memory, I heard it goes something like this:

D/C-Ranks: Biting your tongue or equivalent
B-Ranks: Small stab wound or equivalent
A-Ranks: You need to stab/inflict serious harm to a limb or equivalent
S-Ranks: You need to lose limb or inflict equivalent pain or equivalent

Advantages of this method are:
1) It doesn't expend any chakra
2) It doesn't take up one of your three moves if you don't want it to
3) Its more diverse in use, there are few canon chakra surges
4) It can break up to F-Rank gens, whilst canon chakra surges are limited to A-Ranks and below

Disadvantages of this method
1) Causes grievous damage to the body when used repeatedly or against higher-ranking techniques
2) Can hinder mobility e.g. walking or handseals
3) Losing a limb is too high a cost for most bios
4) May result in death :)

Very much correct. Okay, in addition to what was said, let me just describe to you how I see Pain as a way to release from Genjutsu. When you're inside a genjutsu, you're inside a realm of illusion, and, especially when the genjutsu alters the majority of your senses, it gets harder to distinguish what's real and what's not. Although some genjutsus give the illusion of pain, actual physical pain is almost like an infusion of reality that snaps you out of the realm of illusion. It translates in a spike and even a loss of concentration, but it is mainly that abrupt sense of reality that pushes the genjutsu away. Of course, this is also why different levels of pain will only break different levels of genjutsu. The lowest would be clicking your finger (which is a pain you're used to) That would be able to counter, say, D ranks. Stepping um the game, weak physical attacks would break C, freestyle and low ranked taijutsu or bitting your inside cheek would break say B rank, strong taijutsu stabbing yourself, breaking smaller bones, low level burning/voltage would break A rank. EIG/Sage level taijutsu, breaking bones, deep stabs, high voltage/burning would break any other genjutsu. These are not set in stone, just some sort of reference table for you to follow.

Usually, the most used method is stabbing your thigh with a kunai. Should break anything up to A rank, deepen the cut, should break S ranks. You can do it yourself, or use a jutsu for the same effect (Normally I'd suggest that, since it could be handseal-less, and you might even use it to attack your opponent).

Along with pain, you can have a few other elements that would bring you to reality. A bucket filled with cold water would break up to A rank, or even S ranks if it comes with great contusion force. And even if if something is considered low ranked taijutsu, enough repetition could achieve greater ranks. A slap is around B rank ( a woman slap is A rank) in genjutsu breaking force, but if you repeatedly slap someone, it can break any genjutsu.

I think that's pretty much all there is to know about Pain releases. One thing though, many of these methods, even if insufficient to break a genjutsu, will be translated as physical reactions under the illusion, which can be used as signs you're in a genjutsu (For example, if a fire jutsu is incoming, you might be able to sense the heat increasing but see no fireball, so you add two plus two and come to the conclusion you're in a genjutsu. Likewise, say someone slaps you. It is not enough to break you out, but, you feel the slap without explanation and it might be just enough for you to realize and use kai. (Because sometimes it's not about you being unable to use Kai, but just being unable to realize you're in a genjutsu).

I love this paragraph, it actually counters Scorp's Genjutsu to make certain elements to appear as others. I need to be much more attentive to detail like this, exploiting even the most minor of inconsistencies in genjutsu techniques.

Also, I feel I'm ready to move on :)

Anywho, now that we pretty much covered Recognizance and Counter, lets move on to Casting. But before that, let's brush on what a Chakra Burst-Type Technique is. It is a technique that expels chakra from all chakra points of your body and pushes it outwards. The best image you can have is that of an orb that forms on your core and then quickly expands outwards, cleansing your chakra in it's wake. That is what it is, what it is not is, for example, something that covers your body with an element. It is not something that changes your weight or texture. It is not something you spit out, it is not something you throw. It is not something you activate from scroll or a seal outside your body.

So, for example, Added Weight Technique is not a chakra Burst, same with Earth Spear. The most obvious chakra burst would be the Hyuuga Heavenly Spear. There aren't many Elemental Chakra Burst-type Techniques (if any) for the rule is more to encompass custom jutsus rather than canon ones, but there are a few.

If you don't have any question on these previous 2 topics, we shall move on the Casting one. My question would be, how can you cast a jutsu, what are you doing with your chakra, etc etc

With casting genjutsu, my knowledge is pretty limited. My understanding of it is forcefully sending your chakra into the opponent's brain to affect the component responsible for controlling your five senses. Different genjutsus will take control over different senses, however the higher ranked the technique, the more likely it is to affect multiple senses (if not all five).

Other methods of casting genjutsu also exist, but these are less common. Your very own Perfume Release is capable of casting genjutsus through using the opponent's quimoreception. This method (to my understanding) relies on the opponent inhaling your perfume, the perfume acting as the medium to input your chakra into the opponent's brain.

The 2nd Mizukage's Clam Genjutsu is also another notable one. His clam exudes a mist which creates an illusionary affect, by affecting those who look upon it. It seems to follow the same principle as Perfume, only using sight as the medium to cast it rather than the sense of smell. One unique thing about this is that it acts as an "external illusion" making it capable of affecting the Nekura since the genjutsu doesn't rely on sending the user's chakra into the opponent's body.

Jiraiya and Tayuya, have also shown its possible to cast Genjutsu like the above two methods but instead through employing the sense of Sound.

All right on them all, excelent analysis.

Sorry about the long wait, btw.

Okay, so, a genjutsu is, in essence, the procedure of getting your chakra into your opponent's brain, through a Medium, and use that chakra to alter the flow of you opponent's chakra system, and produce an illusion. So, what happens is, whenever you get you chakra into your opponent's brain, you will create an influx, constant or not, of foreign chakra, which will, in my opinion and understanding, create a pressure on the brain, targeting specific areas which will produce the illusion you want. Which is why you need a good understanding of the brain (The better understanding the better the illusion, especially when exploring or creating genjutsu).

The most basic understanding is: You are able to perceive reality due to a great number of sensory organs spread out across your body (Nose, Mouth, Eyes, Skin, etc etc). These will catch stimuli from the world and turn them into "electrical" messages, transported by the Peripheral Nervous System into the Central Nervous System (Which includes the brain), where the messages are received and translated into information, which is then re-sent towards the rest of the body as a message to incite an action (or reaction). Gaining control of the brain means you can alter this pathway of information in multiple ways. You can either distort messages sent by the sensory organs (For example, removing sight, smell, certain visual structures, etc), you can add new messages (Create visions, add imaginary smells or sounds, etc etc) or you can even, in a more advanced casting, change up the information in order to incite a certain response from the target's organism (Like, for example, make him see threating images, which will increase the adrenalin production, create soothing images to calm your opponent, etc etc). You can't tell your opponent how to react to the illusion you create, you can tell them that they fall down because you made them see a spider, or tell them they're in paralyzing fear because you created a monster. Likewise, even by changing the adrenalin levels, you can't really control how much they change, everyone reacts differently, and, ultimately, it's up to the target to reveal what his character would feel in such a situation.
But you can guide them into whatever you would like to make them feel, or give out logical explanation of why they'd feel what you say. In fact, description is a very important thing, you can either use it to confuse the opponent, or direct their interpretation of the genjutsu into whatever is more profitable to you. And this is purely the psychological part of the genjutsu, which you can even do as you roleplay around, without needing to cast techniques (Something I like to call Freestyle Genjutsu).

Okay, back on topic, all these illusions/effects are produced by the addition of your foreign chakra into your opponent's chakra system, which pressures the brain in specific areas. You are basically substituting the target's sensory organs, and overruling them. This, though, adds unbalance into the system, making your opponent's chakra irregular, which, especially after a strong genjutsu or a lengthy genjutsu, makes it quite noticeable. Most obviously would be with chakra sensors, but you can even have symptoms such headaches or even internal bleeding (But that would require a very powerful and invasive genjutsu). A common misconception is that a chakra sensor is able to see the chakra travel from your body to the opponent, something that is incorrect in most of the cases. Ultimately, it is up to the Medium you use to cast the genjutsu, as in, what you use to get your chakra into your opponent's brain.

Cool. I'll stop bothering you then, and move on to actual techniques, should be nice, eh?

Okay then, I decided to clump together all the cannon genjutsu (With the exception of Doujutsu Genjutsu (Sharingan-related)), into 4 categories. This is because I believe many techniques share a common purpose, and are nothing but variations to that purpose, diversifying in a whole bunch of different illusions.

Method 1: Conceal
Method 2: Decoy
Method 3: Maim
Method 4: Others (Temple of Nirvana/Character Specific)

Okay, so, first method. Conceal. This category joins the illusions that pertain to alter how the target perceives an object, the user of even the world around him/her, in order to hide traps, or allow the free-roaming of the target, or even confuse the target. This tactics are useful mainly because, if used right, they're the least noticeable genjutsu.

Okay now, let's analyze the first one:

( Magen: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu ) - Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique
Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10 (+5 if you use it double)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion over an area that allows him to manipulate the way an area looks to fool an opponent. He can only change the way the terrain looks, and not any other feature.

First of all, forget the note on the chakra cost. Double usage as now been made into it's own technique.
Okay so, first of all, method of casting. It's handsealess, requires no visual contact with the user, but it does requires the user to have visual contact with the opponent. Rather than that, this jutsu makes it seem as if you can simply target an area, and any person who walks upon the are will feel the effects of the Genjutsu, which is an interesting casting method (And I think I'll expand on it, through customs).

Okay so, what the genjutsu does is conceal the terrain by changing how it looks. As long as the illusion pertains to change the environment, it is free-for-all. You can change a forest into a desert, or you can change a desert into an island. You can change a mountain into a lava-pit, and you can even change the terrain into a copy of itself, but static, or slightly dynamic, like a video in front of the user. I use it like that, and allows me to have a barrier between me and the target, say, 3 meters radius, where everything that happens behind the barrier, my side, is invisible to to the opponent.

Now, what you can't do is create animals to attack the target, like change the terrain to a pine forest with a bear that jumps to maul the opponent. A moving animal is too complex for the technique. You can create a lava pool, but you can't create heat. You can create wind blowing through the leaves, but you can't create sound. This is a purely visual technique. If your opponent touches the objects you created, he/she will phase through them. Likewise, if wind starts blowing in the terrain, the new position of the leaves might mess with the illusion (making leaves appear out of no where). Likewise, if your opponent moves, he might phase through grass you create, or might nor produce footsteps.

This because this is a very simple and low ranked visual genjutsu. As the techniques go up in rank, they start to become more complex, and are allowed to accommodate changes on the terrain, making more dynamic illusions, as well as incorporate other senses besides vision, making a richer illusion overall.

Finally, if it wasn't already clear, it can be released every way possible. My suggestion, find the user by sound/slip-ups, and attack him/her, before bitting your thumb or the inside of your cheek (No need to put too much strength)

This technique is incredibly useful and probably my favorite of canon concealing methods. It just falls flat when I face an attentive opponent, since they always pick apart the inconsistencies of the newly created construct or the slight environment changes I employ. Do you know if similar basic genjutsus like this ? e.g. one for sounds, one for touch, one for smells and etc. This technique could reach a new level of usefulness if paired with techniques which affect the other senses.

Other than that, no questions for this technique.

I have been taught a few sounds ones, but there's not many. Maybe you could improve that.

Other Conceal techniques:

( Genjutsu: Kahen Tonsou ) - Illusion Technique: Flower Petal Escape

Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes five handseals, appearing to dissolve into a shower of cherry blossom petals. These petals
surround the opponent, blocking his vision. This allows the user to mask his movement effectively.

Requires 5 handseals. The main structure of this technique is concealing the user by seemingly vanishing into a turmoil of pink petals. This is a Vision-based genjutsu, and, like the False surroundings technique, it's a Passive Genjutsu, as in, your open does not lose consciousness and can react to it in real-life, and it's a Stagnant Genjutsu, as in, the petals will move around and cover your opponent's sight from all sides and above, but if your opponent touches the petals, he will phase through. With that being said, though, you can make the petals as numerous as you want, within a certain reason. Thus you can cover your motions behind a screen of petals, summon's motions, a attack, etc. And even a noticeable genjutsu as it's vantages. Even if your opponent can phase through them physically, they're still hindering his vision, so he'll be forced to disrupt them or else he'll be blind, for all purposes and effects.

( Genjutsu: Kasumi ) - Illusion Technique: Servant

Rank: D
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: The user does one handseal and throws a paper bomb at the enemy. The enemy, trapped in a genjutsu will see a clone of the user advancing upon him. As the paper bomb reaches the enemy, it explodes

Requires 1 handseal. Again, this is a Passive Genjutsu and a Stagnant Genjutsu. It is a Vision-based genjutsu. It's main structure is concealing a thrown kunai by "masking" it with a moving clone. This used to be more than just a clone of the user, we used to be able to turn it into a bird, a squirrel, a rock, etc. Unfortunately, description changed, so only a clone is permitted. It's inherently the same as a normal Bunshin no Jutsu, it has no physical form, will not affect the surroundings, etc etc. But it does not need to, really, it just serves to conceal the kunai, which will explode in range. Again, the clone conceals the kunai, so it moves as fast as thrown kunai.

(Magen: Niju Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu) Demonic Illusion: Double False Surroundings Technique
Type: Supplmentary
Rank: B-Rank
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A
Description:
The user will do a sequence of 3 handseals, putting his opponents under a double layered Genjutsu. The user is able to create false surroundings to fool his targets, much like the simpler version of the technique. However, the illusion is in fact layered. If the opponent manages to release the first one, he will then feel the effects of the second illusion. If, for example, the first illusion is that of a desert and the second that of a forest, upon releasing the first one, the opponent will see the desert fade away while the forest appears around him, making him think he dispelled the illusion while in essence he is still caught in one. Each illusion is equivalent to C-Rank and both are casted at the same time. While normal releases will release only one illusion at a time, a strong enough pain or an external source of chakra can dispel both at the same time.

This is a proper format for the Double usage of the False Surroundings technique. Requires 3 handseals and it's a Passive and Stagnant technique. This has a much stronger grasp on opponent, being C rank in strength, while appearing to be D rank (It might be a mistake, but it is so). As we already discussed Kai requires the user to choose what amount of chakra he wants to put into the release. If the opponent decides to go with a D rank, the genjutsu will disrupt slightly, but keep up. If the user utilizes a C rank, then only one of the genjutsus will disrupt.

With that being said, tell me, how would you get out of this one in a single usage?

I never liked the first two to be honest. The first one is almost too basic and doesn't suit any of my bios in the slightest, since its a pretty feminine Genjutsu xD. The second is too easily realized, and so wouldn't serve much purpose in a battle except being a slight distraction or a quick way to waste time for your opponent. Most D-Ranks are too easily realized, but if used in the right situation, they could put a significant amount of pressure on your opponent.

As for releasing the third, I would simply inflict a large enough amount of pain to deal with both genjutsu or an A-Rank or above chakra surge (e.g. Nagashi) to release them both at once. This technique is made weaker by the fact that realizing one genjutsu will mean you don't need to take notice of the other in the slightest. Simply use an appropriate release method (high enough ranked to break both simultaneously) and the 2nd Genjutsu will be broken without realization.
