I've been arguing with my friend on which laptops/PCs are better.

While I myself am an Apple person and he agrees but he has to chose between these 2, I say Dell he says Toshiba, which is better?

ROFL!
I’m going to assume that most of you don't actually work in the IT industry (if you’re old enough to work at all that is), so let me enlighten you...

1st off - it’s a little hard to compare the 2 if you’re not going to state what you intend to do with your PC. Putting that aside though - Dell caters more for Business Users, so if you’re looking for a Gaming rig or something similar, Dell probably won't be your 1st choice. (Thought they do have a limited gaming selection - it gets a little pricy).

Then also - allot of the components that go into your Dell Machines are actually Toshiba components. So basically when you buy a Dell your getting Toshiba guts. The only real difference between them is that Dell offers a much better customer service relationship and Warranty. That’s part of the reason why Dell's are more expensive (generally) than Toshiba’s. Where Toshiba will give you a say - 2 year warranty on hardware, Dell might offer 4 along with a swap around service that you don't generally get with Toshiba.

If you’re going to buy a PC and you’re planning on upgrading or replacing your system within the next 2 to 3 years, then rather go for the cheaper option with the lower warranty since you’re probably not going to use your Extended Dell warranty in anyway.

Like i said - Dell caters for Business Users who usually make use of the extended 4 year warranties and customer service lines, since its good business policy to upgrade or replace your hardware across the board every 4 years or so to avoid product end of life.
