Itachi being an in-depth character is the biggest joke posted in this thread. Which depth are we talking about? The depth his sword reached up Orochimaru's anus? The depth of his Suiton puddle? The pockets of his pants? The depth of his whores' vaginas? Which depth?
Lol please. if itachi isn't then neither is sasuke. Crying like a emo 24/7 isn't exactly more benefiting than someone whose willing to put aside his pride and value for the sake of the village and his brother who should've died in the first place.
these faps take everything so literal. obviously it is not completely accurate in terms of quality but it obvious that the top 5 wouldn't even be there if they weren't interesting with great development and that includes naruto with his massive growth. That alone is enough to get that ridiculous claim of "garbage character" into the fanfic where it belongs.

Well, you showed me. Bit of advice; if you want to be taken even remotely seriously by me, don't use 'emo'. It renders your entire argument worthless and silly by default.
None of what you described has anything to do with being an "in-depth" character. Literally nothing. In fact, being a garden variety jingoistic mute, who spews fifth grader philosophy sometimes out of the blue, makes him seem pretty awful.

Laura is pretty new in comparison to KK but You don't like King Kong? Or monster movies? King Kong is up there with alien, and the planet of the apes franchise.
You need to try new things. There's more out there than Sasuke and vampire tv shows.

A character having growth doesn't mean they are a strongly written character. Obito, for example, has growth, but his motivations still revolve around a twelve year old. Naruto is not a badly written character, by no means, but he is far from the best on this series. Itachi is even farther. That said, the fact that a character is liked widely still doesn't mean at all they're well written at all. I don't see how someone in Narutobase, home to the most obnoxious Naruto fandoms in the internet, could still believe that.

lol you're obviously grasping at straws here. obito's development is through "madara"(tobi) which is arguably one of the best villains in the series in terms of who he is and how far he stretched this fanfic about him being someone he isn't. That makes him a greatly written character regardless if his post reveal was complete and udder crap which was mostly due to time contraints for kishi trying to end the manga. From every single comment I've read from you, I think you fail to realize that it's not a character problem, it's a kishi problem. Obviously from 3rd perspective the naruto series is shallow even for the best characters but obviously from within closer perspective, itachi, naruto, sasuke, gaara, shika and tobi would not only be one of most fleshed out but more times than not but voted as some of the best.
And please, I've seen some garbage -best written- characters list like jiraiya. just because he's relatable doesn't make him the best but it also doesn't make him the garbage. I don't know where you're getting this #1 naruto the best. I never said that, I'm saying he's good written character like the other top 5 thus deserves his due. "obnoxious naruto fandom" The pot calling the kettle black lol, someone skips kaguya, kabuto, nagato but manages to get to itachi first. gtfo eleyon.

No it is not. I like Obito, but I'm not gonna defend the fact that when you consider Obito's character as a whole, it is downright sad to see how weak a villain he's become. Its underwhelming at best, because you still gotta account that for all his badassery behind the mask, he was still motivated by the twelve year old girl there.
But you're right, there are genuinely great characters in Naruto. Kabuto is actually complex, Pain makes for an amazing main villain and Sasuke's character, while being more or less jumbled throughout the end, did take very interesting twists and turns. Most of the Akatsuki are interesting for what they are, and Kishi has shown himeslf to be great at short term characters like Zabuza and Haku when he actually tries.
Itachi is not one of those.
People look and try to pick him apart a lot, but ultimately, there aren't many layers to him. Itachi is stoic, calm and completely in perfect in everything. He likes to work alone, but that is the only one flaw of his character, and its one he himself overcomes with no outside interference in the end. I dare you to name any valid flaws to his character besides that one thing, not stuff like "oh, he loves his brother too much", but actual flaws like any human being should realistically have.
Most overrated character is clearly Hashirama imo but Itachi had feats that backed it up, like being part of the team to capture the 9-tails, which Nagato trusted Itachi and Kisame to do, so I don't know why you'd do that if he wasn't very good
He said they would die or badly hurt each other, perhaps itachi would die from exhaustion from holding up his susano'o for so long or die due to his illness in battle. But Nah, Madara was stated to be immortal because he was basically a legend, itachi also said he killed his brother to take his eyes, and we know from Hashirama that that is the last thing Madara would do. So the accuracy of that, and it's comparison are a lil far fetched. itachi also let himself be hit by Kabuto's shit, he is already dead and will just regen, so why waste energy dodging such attacks.
Not completely.....and with the help of his brother.....p.s the fact the he was an edo....so if he was alive then he would of been dead two times.......and the only reason itachi was able to beat kabuto....it was because of izanami...which is a completely USELESS jutsu against kabuto now...since he accept his character.....so....sage mode kabuto>>>itachi.....maybe the fight will be more harder for kabuto since he lost oro's senjutsu chakra....but he still wins....

Nope. tobi = obito. there is no separating the two. Doesn't matter what he became after the mask fell, he is still that "tobi" character and that development still applies to him. His conclusion was bad I know but doesn't derail the character. it's like derailing darth vader because of anakin skywalkers character. no, it goes hand in hand. he's a great written character with a flawed conclusion. The same logic applies to nagato(pain) and from old school itachi fanboys who like villain itachi but not "good" itachi. The only difference thou I considered "good" itachi as better handled than the other villains since it intertwine well with other characters which i'll get to in a moment.

pftt nonsense, losing ones memory is not complex at all nor was there any journey to it either. it was simply finding a purpose (which is never fully grasp) and just suddenly throws orochimaru asap at kabuto then he becomes his lap dog. if that's your sad attempt of classifying him as above itachi and god forbid a complex character then stop. lol Pain is good until that goodboy copout rinne-tensei...oh but wait, having a bad conclusion makes him a bad character like obito right?

sigh... 2017 and people still don't get itachi. it was his "perfection" and his burden to shisui that was his flaw, not his love for his brother. that's what kishi was trying to get across. obito, gaara, sasuke, even itachi has some reflection of choices that would've become naruto. obito was naruto giving up his dream, gaara was naruto never achieving early acknowledgement, sasuke was naruto if focused on the past instead of the future and itachi is naruto solving everything himself.
but ofc like itachi said "it took death for him to realize his flaws" which is why he told naruto to depend on his friends and that there acknowledgement is what matters if he wants to achieve his goal to prevent mistakes. Itachi's narrative could not had been more effective from any elses mouth. He was the perfect example of what naruto has already become and would inevitably end up like madara, examples like naruto carried the burden of sasuke solely to himself to the point he said that he will die with sasuke, his face was so injured just so he wouldn't rat out sasuke to kumo which could've led to more distrust between villages, he faced pain alone only to burden himself to find the answer to chain of hatred and if matters couldn't be worst, he burdened himself more with this obligation to protect the entire alliance with KCM shadow clones and narrowly almost died because of it.
You say non realism was a problem, I disagree. it worked perfectly. Why must every backstory got to be about failure, why not success? his success rate got his parents killed, success rate of keeping sasuke alive backfired because of orochimaru, his success of beating sasuke to seal amaterasu and orochimaru backfired because then obito had evidence to reveal the truth to sasuke in order to turn him into a criminal. you say doing it alone makes him a flawed character, well duh. that was the point genius. infact, it's kinda funny, but the one time itachi decided to rely on someone else when he was alive, he sealed koto into naruto which was exactly what bailed him out from kabuto's puppeteer grips to be able to redeem himself by bringing back morality into sasuke so that naruto could be able to save sasuke in vote2.
LOL I got to say, I use to always considered kishimoto trash for over relying on parallels but now that I think about it after discussing with you, kishi style while flawed is pretty darn good, especially for a very long (3+yrs) war arc that had a deadline for manga completion and still managed to pull out some decent symbolism on par with one piece and hxh. anyway, your grudge against itachi has made you look at him from a narrow perspective, you have to broaden it to see the bigger picture, when you do. you'll realize the "multi layer game" is nonsense and doesn't apply in this series. there is no several layered character in this series. no amount of fanfic will prove there is nor do this overrated most "relatable = best character" crap. the entire purpose that kishi intended is that that each character intertwine with each other to tell the bigger story that is naruto. anyway. Itachi is easily top 10. i'm sure sasuke, naruto, shika, obito, gaara and neji in there as well. I'd throw in madara as well but his story feels like a recycled sasuke mixed with nagato story, not original enough.

Yeah. And as a whole, Obito ends up looking pretty badly. Darth Vader became a completely different person from Anakin, but Obito was Obito all along, and that ****s up his character IMMENSELY. Even Tobi, when you stop to think about it was not that endearing. The only reason he was so interesting was because of the mystery behind him. It created a lot of expectation for when he took off the mask, expectation that was never met, and thus we end up with this half-baked character.

The loss of memory is not what's interesting about Kabuto, but rather the lack of a true identity and his struggles to find it. It's pretty pathetic in the end all he goes through just to become someone, and that makes him interesting to read about. As for Nagato, no, he's still a well written character. You can understand his motivations and why he ultimately turns easily enough if you pay attention. The Rinne Tensei was a cop out, but not on his character, rather on the overall plot, while Obito's character is essentially flawed. Its a big difference and a very forced comparison.

You wrote this massive four paragraph thing and you focused on his narrative and role on the plot but not on the written character itself, which easily tells me there is not much to be said on this character. Itachi, as a plot device, works. He works to serve as a parallel to naruto, he works to drive the point home that working alone will get you nowhere, he works to show how impossible the Uchiha Massacre situation was, but he does not work as a character.
