That’s not the same as saying “this crew here are the best as at as combat ability goes” its completely different why? Becuase he isn’t comparing the teams combat ability to anyone else’s he’s saying that he is saying that he “thinks” the crew in front of him is what’s best to save Naruto which is true.

You making things up, if Shikamaru said that everyone going to save Naruto had the best combat ability individually then you would have a leg to stand on but he didn’t. He didn’t even individually praise or reference their strength, he referred to them as a whole.
As a whole they didn’t need Sakura because they were already strong enough as a whole to attempt to save Naruto.
When did a Sakura fan disagree with the Viz translation though like you are disagreeing with this one? @Bold: Shikamaru didn't choose anybody he was just praising the Hokage who were going. The fact that Boruto went undermines the concept of battle strength altogether since he didn't make it exclusive himself.

The Kage chose themselves, Sasuke didn't say no to them and Shikamaru isn't going to bash them by saying "by the way your not the best but you volunteered so thanks for going to retrieve the Hokage." You should stop reaching Shikamaru's praise is in reference to their station nothing else.

But the undeniable point is that Shikamaru factored in their overall strength as a group, he didn’t look at them as individuals before guessing if they were the best team for the mission. You cannot logically say that each individual’s strength on that team is greater then anyone else’s who wasn’t on it becuase Shikumaru never identified or elaborated on any of their individual strength, he talked about their strengths as a whole.
All I’m saying is this: based on shikamuras words in the Viz translation you cannot say as a fact that he thought each of their individually strengths was the basis of his guess that they made a great team for the mission. But you can say without a doubt that he guessed their strength combined as a whole made their team suitable for the mission .
Shikamaru didn’t choose anyone to go nor did he ask for any of them to go, they were going on their own before Shikamaru was even in the picture.he only commented and validated the team going already going before he had anything to say about it.

Stop ignoring the fact that Lee has stronger if not better combat strength then some of the kages who weren’t choose to go rescue Naruto but instead having volunteered.

You factor in individual strength to gauge a groups strength..... That's how you gauge a groups stregnth, You can't gauge a groups strength without looking at the individuals within said group.

If you have a group in any catagory and claims they're the best crew, you'd assume they are the best available at what ever that group were created to do.
