A few weeks ago i finished the series Deathnote and as an overall it was a great series. Below i will list my likes and dislikes about this series.Warning the following may contain spoilers

Story/plot part 1:
I felt The writing for most of part one was excellent. The twists and the suspense was great. The planning on both light and L part was realistic. It was just epicness!!!!But as part one progressed and specifically towards the end of part one(The Yotsuba Arc) i felt extremely bored. I liked the setting of Light vs L these two brilliant minds going at it. But in the Yotsuba Arc they are working together....really.......i just didn't like the change much. not only that the Yotsuba members sucked as characters i mean the weren't even good bad guys(if that makes any sense). They were just dull and boring. However at the end of the Yotsuba Arc it picks up alot and leads into what most people consider the saddest part of deathnote the Death of L

The Death of L: L was a great character and was defiantly a highlight of this series. However i really didn't feel any emotion when he died. When he died i had more of a what the **** face compared to a OMG that was so sad. I just felt that there was not enough development between the two for me to care for L death. This marks the end of part one of deathnote and i also consider this to be when deathnote takes a bad dive

Story/Plot Part 2:
The writing for part 2 IMO pales in comparison to Part 1. With the death of L the author decides to make Near........oh dear.....near sucks. Along with the add on of near we get mello who is just as bad of a character. Well that's enough about the new characters lets talk about the writing.....I felt that instead of there being realistic planning/detective work i almost felt that near had telepathy. I mean in part one it was back and forward with L and light one had the edge and then the other stole that edge and it was interesting. In this part It was Near constantly questioning light and cornering his ass. L had doubts about light being kira but it seemed that Near was dead set on light being kira. Overall it seemed that the author walked up to Near and said here take a look at the rest of Deathnote's plot/twists xd.

The End::( Now alot of Readers complain about the ending and i don't understand why. I thought it was great it was powerful and it was amusing. it was for me the highlight of part two. It was really basic how light loses and i was also hoping for something a bit more creative but the ending was definatly not as bad as it could have been.

Characters:
This is just the main game players in the series

L: He was a badass nuff said

Light: he was also a badass nuff said

Misa Amane : She was annoying but her recklessness at certain parts of the series defiantly added to the suspense....she is still better then near xd

Mello: I didn't really care for him too much although he plays a small but still significant role in catching kira. but as a replacement for L he was garbage...

Ryuk:Was awesome he and his unhealthy addiction to apples brought some additional amusement to the series xd. I would have liked to see him be a bit more helpful to light tho.....

Near: My least favorite character in this series....why because he is a cheap imitation of L. Not only that his detective skills to me seemed to be more of telepathy rather then process of elimination or logical reasoning. Also i felt that Near was never really pushed at all which made him to me unrealistic and dull.
I would defiantly suggest to others to read deathnote. It may appear that i have taken a bat to this series but don't get the wrong impression. This is just me breaking the series down to highlight the good and the bad. It may come off that way but i don't mean to either over-hype or batter it. If you have managed to read all of this thank you for reading. Let me know your thoughts on this series what you agree or disagree on thanks :).

Very well written, and I couldn't agree anymore with what you've said! I really hope the creator of DN makes another story similar to this one.

yeah. what you said is pretty much same for every death note fan.

most people couldn't believe L died for real. they (including me) thought that he would appear out of nowhere until the very end.

and about part 1 and part 2. part 1 was unmatched. it was certainly the best plot among the many series out there. for me it's definitely the best by miles. however part 2 isn't the same. it's even hard to believe that's how the story continued.

lol Yeah, Death Note is an incredible series. I loved all of it. And I see you took Light's exact opinion of Near xd I actually loved Near. I saw him as L's avenger. And more importantly the boy who beat Kira. And when Light finished his speech about how the world needed him, and Near's response was "No. You're just a murderer." I laughed.
Yeah, Part 1 was much better than Part 2, but I liked both equally in the end.
My favorites were Light and L (of course), Near, Teru Mikiami, and Reiji Namikawa. This guy, in case you don't know who I'm talking about.

Y'know I watched Death Note but I never did read every chapter in the manga. It's not a large series so maybe I'll finish that up soon

I can't agree more with you on this, especially Near. Holy **** he was just so dull. It was like, he just magically knew everything. With part 1, Light vs L, they were both reading eachother's next moves, altering plans to rather drastic measures, etc. So entertaining!

But yeah, listen to OP people, he gave a pretty good description of the series.

Agree with you!

OT: I had watch Death Note, Episode 1, didn't like it. Didn't watch it for years. Picked up again, watched episode 2, finished the whole thing in 2 days. Death Note is one of my all time favs. And I started watching mainly because of L. After L died, :T_T: I thought it's over now.

But I liked Near too. Near looed to me like a bitter Teenager. He was angry with Kira and slightly disappointed about losing L. His point about not being as confronting as L was valid. I have seen people like Mikiami, I liked the portrayal. And I have seen girls like Kiyomi Takada. After L's death, Light just kept getting worse and I was disgusted with him towards the end...

Great Series. I cried at the last episode when the teen Light, bright and innocent passes the dying Light... :T_T: EPIC!

Too damn right, Near and Mello could not compare to L's epicness.

Death Note is in my top 5 favorite! Seriously, I admire Ohba a lot for his story writing ability and Obata's art was totally cool!

Light; loved him. total badass. liked him enough to buy a shirt that says "I support Kira".

L; epic! he was also awesome. A genious who I refer to as 'sensei' xd

Watari; best grandpa ever xd

Mello; he was great entertainment. I liked him a lot. :D

Matt; didn't see him much but he was useful.

Mikami; screwed everything up...

Misa; annoying as heck sometimes but also quite useful.

Ryuk; hilarious but indifferent to the bitter end
;
Near; ...i hate him with a burning passion.

Death Note is a work of art that truely braught new perspectives into light. It was truely amazing. At first I wasn't fond of the ending but I've grown satisfied with it.

Have you wached the live action? I have mixed feelings about it but it was good over all.

Light and Misa were actually my favorite characters. I hated L during the entire first part, and I was so happy when he died. Then Near and Mello came along, and I still hate L, but not as much as THEM. I agree that they were so boring and just magically knew everything. There is no way they had access to any of the information L was getting from his experiments and tests.

I hated the ending of the show. It was so sad when Light died. I was just sitting there in that last scene waiting for Terumi to kill everyone and kira to win. And then Near explains what he did and I'm like: F U.

And then of course Ryuk betrayed Light and Misa was standing over a bridge in the credits after Light died, so it's as if saying she's going to jump off the bridge. They pretty much killed off my favorite 2 characters in the end and let the underdeveloped idiot characters live.

I am in complete agreement with you all and I do hope that the author does another series. Hopefully a little closer to part 1 and less part 2.

Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata made aother series called Bakuman but its not like Death Note.

It's about two kids who want to become Mangakas so they work really hard and have all these goals. I'm on volume eleven. It's not at all like Death Note but it's a great series! I highly recomend it.
