I hated and loved Light, and to see him be humiliated by Near like that, it's sad...

I feel his arrogance and childlike attitude led to his downfall. Especially when he killed L. Taylor and Ray Penbar, he totally messed up.

Nonetheless it was one of the most tragic ending for a anime/manga, and totally satisfying.

Also, who else thought Ryuk was somehow the mastermind behind everything because he was bored?

Loved Light, His death was lame, Ending sucked.

Just feel like it made the whole show a waste of time, Would be like Naruto dying and not becomming Hokage at the end :|

What are you talking about? It ended with Light killing L and becoming God of the New World
Then Ryuk killing Light :p

"One day I'll write your name in my note book".

But yeah Kira is still immortalized as god, through different people using the Death Note that is.

Wait.

Isn't L the main protagonist of the Death Note series? So... he dies early and this Light character takes his place as main protagonist or what?

Becuase every Death Note movie I watch (live action film) L is always the main character.

Need to watch/read this anime/manga more for more information.

Near was my favorite character so the ending was extremely satisfying for me. And no I don't consider Ryuk a "mastermind". He just stood on the sidelines and enjoyed the show. The reason why he was not a mastermind is simple: he was honest from the very beginning in everything he said. He warned Light he's going to write his name in the notebook. He was more like a how-to-use guide for Light in the beginning.

The ending was tragic and I loved it. The whole time I couldn't decide if I wanted Lights downfall or see him succeed.

I don't see ryuk as the mastermind, he just enjoyed the show Lol.
