Here’s Chapter 4 (I know, quick, right?xd) Like I said, it’s a direct continuation of Chapter 3 and this is one of the better chapters, in my opinion:D So, please enjoy:)

My Plan

His curiosity piqued, Shahim followed me downstairs to my kitchen, where sat a fresh plate of my mother’s cookies that I had made no more than an hour ago. I grabbed one and quickly stuffed half of it into my mouth. The moment I swallowed it, my sorrow was almost completely dispersed. I never got used to that feeling.

"Ooooh. What’re those you have there?"

"Mm. These are the cookies my mother always made. Chocolate chip. They always make me feel better. I think I perfected the recipe, too."

I could see the look in his never-blinking eyes and I knew precisely what he was thinking. Quick-witted as I was, I decided to use that to my advantage.

"Take one if you want it."

"Huh? …Well, alright."

His facial expression after taking the first bite couldn’t help make me smile. I knew that these cookies were impossible to dislike.

"Oh, boy! Those things are so…warm and…uh…sweet and…uh, what’s that other word?"

"Chewy?"

"Yeah, that’s it! Oh, those are so chewy! Um, do you mind if I…?"

"Knock yourself out."

He let out a noise that had characteristics of both a chuckle and a giggle before grabbing a second cookie and throwing it into his open mouth. Before he could go for a third, though, I quickly took the plate and wrapped it in plastic before putting it on top of my refrigerator.

"Hey! What’s your deal!?"

"I said you could have a second, Shahim, not a third. Those are still mine, don’t forget that."

"Well, come on, then! Throw me a bone here! What do I have to do to get another one of those cookies!?"

"Hook, line, and sinker."

"Well, here’s an idea. Anytime I require information that only you can provide or need a task completed that you alone can perform-"

"Okay, then! I’ll do whatever you ask! Just gimme that whole plate now!"

In that moment, success had officially handed itself to me on a silver platter, …all in exchange for a cookie.

"No problem. I just need one thing sorted out for now."

Letting the eight to ten cookies slide off the plate and into his gaping mouth in a rather comedic manner, he placed the plate back on the counter before returning his attention to me.

"And what’s that?"

"…How long do I have left to live?"

Despite objecting to answering this question a moment ago, he couldn’t help but chuckle as he looked at me to decipher the code of numbers floating above my head.

"Okay, is the chuckling a good sign or a bad sign?"

"…Well, let’s say that you’ll be making those cookies for a loooong time."

"How long, Shahim?"

"…Ninety-two years. ...Do the math and you're set to die at the age of a hundred and eight, ...unless of course, a Shinigami becomes tempted by all those extra years."

He chuckled at the thought. Any trace of guilt or sorrow that remained in my heart was completely gone as the number slipped off his tongue and a smile formed across my face.

"…Perfect. …Thank you, Shahim. That’s all I needed to know."

"Hmm? And why’s that?"

"Because, …I now have all the time in the world to do what I’m prepared to do."

"Oh, do tell."

I took a moment to look over at the kitchen wall, on which hanged a photograph of myself with my parents beside me. ...What I would give to relive that moment for just a second.

"Before I do that, …you have to recall my reaction when you informed me of what I was destined for after death."

“Hmmm…pure devastation.”

"Yes. That was the worst feeling I’ve ever felt in my life…and I don’t want anyone else to have to feel that pain...ever."

"This boy…what is he planning?"

"The people of the world will never be subject to my fate again, but in order to ensure that, …I’ll have to dispose of anyone in the world that’s worth killing."

"Ooooh, this is better than I ever expected. Great food and a front-seat ticket to the greatest show the human world will ever see, …and all I had to do was drop a notebook."

"I’m doing the world a favor, after all. Murderers, rapists, thieves, the corrupt and disgusting vermin of this rotting world need to remember who created it in the first place! And once I’m certain that nobody else will ever harm another human being ever again, there will be no reason for anyone to use a Death Note. Who are they going to kill, if everyone else is just as kind, loving, and innocent as they are!? That’s right, there’s no one! If I can’t be with God in His kingdom, then the least I can do is let him know that I’m sorry for my actions, by doing what free will forbids Him from doing Himself, …RIDDING THE WORLD OF ALL WHO DEFY HIM!!"

I was rambling at this point, and was forced to stop and catch my breath. I think my point was perfectly made, though.

"So, when are you gonna start this mission of yours?"

"…As soon as I find someone capable of doing it in my stead."

His thought pattern almost stopped completely in its tracks. It seemed he never expected me to say that.

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

"If I’m serious about this, then I can’t take any chances of exposure. If one places himself on the front lines, there’s always a good chance of getting shot down. No, I’ll need to find someone else to do it for me, …who shares most of my ideals and whose capable of withstanding the test of time, so that once all of my obstacles are gone, I can take this objective back into my own hands. …And, of course, …I certainly can’t take such a risk while L’s still around."

"L?"

I adopted one of my more serious expressions before looking at Shahim to explain who this aforementioned man was.

"L is, in the best explanation I can give, a living cheatbook. He’s one of the greatest mind of the past century and, arguably, the greatest detective to ever live…and he’s never even had to reveal his identity to the world. The cases he’s been able to solve include some of history’s greatest mysteries, …while the cases he’s never been able to solve…are non-existent. He’s never wrong, …not yet, at least. Even if my doppelganger can’t kill him off, he’s sure to give me a hint to his identity that’ll guarantee my victory. But know this, Shahim, L has to die before I can take matters into my own hands."

"…Wow. So, he’s that smart, huh? Well, if you can’t pull it off, then where are you gonna find someone who can?"

"…Oh, I’ve already chosen my first…test subject, if you will."

"Already, huh? Well, who is it?"

I smiled at him, though at the same time, my heart was beginning to fill with remorse once again.

"I have school tomorrow. You’ll see him there. He’s a friend of mine, …actually, he’s probably the only person I could honestly call my friend. He’s not my intellectual equal, but he’s pretty damn close…and his confidence in his abilities gives him an edge that I won’t have if I go up against L on my own. You’ll know him when you see him. His name is…Light Yagami."

No problem, although it actually doesn't take a lot. Add the colour you want and start off with typing the chapters. It seriously takes like 1 and half seconds.

Oh no, that part was directed toward making shorter chapters, cause that'll just make me have to write more of them to get all the plot details I want out therexd
