Jiraiya? Asuma? Itachi? Naruto doesn't mindlessly throw out its cast for tragic effect but at least when it does kill people, it has the ability to make it feel permanent. Edo Tensei exists but that's not permanent at all.

And Naruto and Sasuke dying would make no sense plotwise. Goku dying means nothing because you know he can come back. Every. Single. Time.

None of them were really important, Jiraiya ok but rest wasn't such a big influence to the story everyone could die in dbz and come back ofcourse, But they had to do something for it, And with Edo tensei they can come back Every. Single. Time. < i can do that to do i look cool now?

DBZ has crazy powers, that makes it so sh~ty & unrealistic. in naruto, Kishi fully explains how, and where the powers come from (chakra ftw)...

but anyway, DBZ will win...

At least with Edo Tensei they come back being controlled, and dead, unaware of what's been accruing. They have to fight their comrades and students. And how can you say Neji was a key character but Jiraiya wasn't. Jiraiya played a larger role than most in this entire story. The guy trained the fourth, pain, naruto. He spied on Akutski and relayed all the info found on them to other villages. His former teammate was the one who is accredited for Edo Tensei (even though the 2nd was the original developer). He was definitely a key character.

Sorry i didn't mean that Neji had a bigger role than Jiraiya it's just the first important character to die in a war on the good side, yeah the father of shikamaru and the father of Ino aswell but you can't say they had a big role.

And remind me when any important DBZ character has been dead for long. After the montage of Z Fighters died, all of them became useless fodder once they came back. Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu were all utterly unimportant following their roles (of dying) in the Saiyan Saga, Piccolo was the only one who mattered. Krillin was around for everything I guess but let's be realistic: what contributions did he REALLY make in Z? Not that many.

Say what you will but you aren't bringing any objective points about what makes Z as great a story. And as far as I'm aware the characters who would use Edo Tensei to bring people back are gone now so that point is moot. I suppose that if Obito pulls a plot no jutsu resurrection at the end for some reason it would undo the war deaths but it's better than where in Dragon Ball every character that matters comes back multiple times for plot purposes. Nonexistent plot purposes as that.

It's not about sounding cool, it's about bringing points that actually mean anything besides "Omg I have epic nostalgia for DBZ therefore it's the best anime ever."

Oh look at that, a poll with 14 votes totally suggests that everyone in the world agrees with you. Because you know, 14 votes is such a huge number I can't even begin to argue against such a large experimental sample.

Either way it doesn't matter because neither Naruto nor DBZ are the best animes out there. Shounenwise Fullmetal Alchemist and One Piece utterly dominate them both, and don't get me started on the other genres.

And again I'd like to point out. Developmentwise, Kisame>>>>>>>>>>>>>>any DBZ character. By far.

franchise is the most influential anime/manga ever not the best

And you think Naruto tops that smh.... your in denial

im not saying naruto tops that im saying in my opinion naruto is a much better series then dbz with dbz you know whats going to happen naruto not so much also being influential is not the same as being the best or better all it means is that series influenced many people.
series could be crap yet influential as someone out there will like it and could get inspired

ask yourself this would you still think dbz is better than naruto if you started watching it today (i hope you can answer this objectively) as i believe you favour dbz because it was probably the first anime you watched so nostalgia will have a big part in this
but if you truly believe dbz is better that's fine as that's down to you but for me naruto is so much better so no i am not in denial

Dragonball and DBZ for sure ..... Dragonball series is much better than anyother series i've ever read...

and people who say DBZ didn't have character depth, story was predictable etc.... are you f**king kidding me

Dragonball started as a martial arts manga with magic fantasy -> Aliens with radits, vegeta, freeza then -> Android Si-Fi with cell -> back to magic fantasy Buu ........are you guys saying you were able to predict all these things the first time you read it when the series was still coming :|

name me any other manga which combines 3 or 4 separate main genre into a single manga and made it epic beyond imagination

now DBZ may seem predictable bcos you have already seen the entire series or know the outcome for every battle..... also reading other mangas influenced by Dragonball first and reading/seeing DBZ afterward skews your perception....making you think DZB plot is predictable

is the plot of DragonBall complex-NO but that is the main plus point of DB.... anyone from 10yr old kid to 30yr old adult can understand and enjoy the manga/anime to the core .....thats why it has such an influence

another epic thing about DB is it influenced an entire generation of manga writers...
even naruto's character influenced by Goku character design

Goku and Naruto - wears orange and blue outfit ,protects their friend, goofy ,eats a lot , but when it comes to fights they knows what to do, doesnt start the fight and always held back in some training/injury so the friends buy them time then they comes and beat the sh!t out of main villan in the arc/saga, but isn't ruthless with the power and doesn't try kill everyone he fights

Vegeta and Sasuke- wears white and violet outfit, arrogant, both everyone in their clan/planet killed off except a select few, proud of their lineage, rivel to the main character, but main character tried to treats them as friends ,ruthless, kills even their comrade.

so bear this in mind before saying DB is bad/inferior to naruto
without Dragonball there wont be naruto

Is this supposed to be your own opinion of what a better series is or are we trying to use data and the like? Define a better series because it can vary in definition.

If I had access to only one of the two, I would have to pick Dragonball and Dragonball Z.

Partly due to nostalgia, partly due to the badassary of it all.

Fun Fact That Everyone Knows: Kishi was inspired by DB/DBZ. ;)

Honestly I'd say I'd prefer Naruto over DBZ. In my opinion Naruto did a better job with its character development than DBZ, and had more of a "story" per say. Now if this included DB as a whole I might be inclined to side with it due to how awesome part 1 was but Z on its own is a pretty basic story. In fact I'd go as far as to say there isn't really a story, it's a pretty repetitive formula of enemies invade Earth, heroes fight them off with some casualties, heroes proceed to attempt to bring back dead friends and get into more trouble, rinse and repeat till the end.

However, I'd like to point out that I'm not a Naruto fanboy. To be frank, I'm not all THAT fond of Naruto either. In elementary school I thought it was the greatest thing I had ever seen and worshiped it like no other. Partially because back then it was in its golden age, and partially because I was a child that Naruto was pretty much made to cater to. Naruto is a very Shounen story, easily as much as DBZ is, and I've come to realize that there are many more animes that are loads better storywise and characterwise than the average Shounen. I'm still a big fan of part 1 but part 2 has a huge amount of problems. In particular I very much dislike Sasuke and find that the development that seemed like an attempt to make him sympathetic only made him feel more like a scumbag and it bothered me that, for a time, he hogged the screen (er, panel) time. But it is balanced out by awesome developments like Kisame's role in part 2, the exploration of the stories of Minato and Kushina, etc.

And on the topic of fillers, aside from when I was a kid, I hardly watched through the Naruto anime (and have seen practically none of Shippuden to be honest). Pretty much everything I have knowledge wise for it is from the manga so the filler doesn't really pertain to me.

that is ur opinion. I love DBZ but its old. For naruto, i love to watch it but too much filler.. and too much flashback it getting me tired of it.. yes dbz always keep people back to life because its what "dragon ball" is about.. when i watch it made me exciting and so colourful also so dreamful like when u dead u go to other world.. naruto sort of boring like on the planet earth that all.. naruto is just stop the enemies, save sasuke and some of funny.. not many plot same for dbz.. dbz have many characters who are not came back.. they are too differemt to compare.. i will go for dbz because their filler is great and not much of flash back that all

one peice is the crappest ever i have seen..

whats blowing up a planet got to do with anything and who really gives a crap in the end of the day there is barely a story to dbz and each arc is a reboot of the previous arc as everyone dies then wish them back and start all over again
