Honestly I'd say I'd prefer Naruto over DBZ. In my opinion Naruto did a better job with its character development than DBZ, and had more of a "story" per say. Now if this included DB as a whole I might be inclined to side with it due to how awesome part 1 was but Z on its own is a pretty basic story. In fact I'd go as far as to say there isn't really a story, it's a pretty repetitive formula of enemies invade Earth, heroes fight them off with some casualties, heroes proceed to attempt to bring back dead friends and get into more trouble, rinse and repeat till the end.

However, I'd like to point out that I'm not a Naruto fanboy. To be frank, I'm not all THAT fond of Naruto either. In elementary school I thought it was the greatest thing I had ever seen and worshiped it like no other. Partially because back then it was in its golden age, and partially because I was a child that Naruto was pretty much made to cater to. Naruto is a very Shounen story, easily as much as DBZ is, and I've come to realize that there are many more animes that are loads better storywise and characterwise than the average Shounen. I'm still a big fan of part 1 but part 2 has a huge amount of problems. In particular I very much dislike Sasuke and find that the development that seemed like an attempt to make him sympathetic only made him feel more like a scumbag and it bothered me that, for a time, he hogged the screen (er, panel) time. But it is balanced out by awesome developments like Kisame's role in part 2, the exploration of the stories of Minato and Kushina, etc.

And on the topic of fillers, aside from when I was a kid, I hardly watched through the Naruto anime (and have seen practically none of Shippuden to be honest). Pretty much everything I have knowledge wise for it is from the manga so the filler doesn't really pertain to me.

? What do you mean? I was watching DBZ on foreign channels before it was aired and censored on Cartoon Network.

I mean that ignorant kids will always say that Naruto is better than DBZ when it clearly is not and never will be.

That's very opinionated, especially considering I rarely see people who can give me an objective reason about why DBZ is such an amazing series. I wouldn't say it's bad, but there's not much about it that makes it stand out storywise. I'd give Naruto the edge by a slight bit but there are so many series out there that are significantly better than either of them. DBZ was great for my childhood and the games are always fun but that's about as far as it goes really.

The fact that Naruto has characters like Kisame, Zabuza, and the rest in Akutski gives it a higher approval than DBZ. DBZ had two Sides, good and Evil. The only two characters that really made DBZ what it was were Piccolo and Vegita. Piccolo because of his previous history with Goku. But his impact died in after the Cell Saga. And Vegita was always an Awesome Character, but one can only play the villain so many times. And after The Buu Saga, they killed Vegita like they killed Piccolo. They no longer mattered. It's sad really. DBZ had so much more potential.

DBZ was made many years ago, and didn't have much other animes to copy/take ideas from, The makers of Naruto copied/took ideas from other animes, DBZ couldn't do that cause its so long ago. It is better and always will be.

Haha. I'm not sure how old you think I am, but I'm no longer a kid. My friends and I all loved DBZ, but when you're exposed to something better, you admit it's better. Naruto's story line, characters, character techniques, and overall environment is better than DBZ. When people die, they die. New generations surpass old generations, they take death seriously rather than "don't worry! We can just wish them back with the Dragon Balls!" Naruto is just a better anime/manga.

Well said, I really must agree on that. Zabuza and Kisame are some of my favorite characters in Naruto. Zabuza made for an epic villain since he wasn't nearly as one-dimensional as most Z villains, he actually had a heart deep down and his personality made for an epic death. And Kisame......Kisame's development was stellar. In my opinion it surpasses anything from Dragon Ball Z. His flashback to his chat with Itachi about death really struck me like almost no other death in Naruto did and after ages of him not showing anything, Kisame couldn't have had a more epic role in the story.

That's another reason why I'd put Naruto above Z. In Dragon Ball Z, there was no sense of "death" because every time someone died they could be resurrected to the point where they even used loopholes for the Dragon Balls. Death was never permanent for the heroes and the good guys would always come back after a while. In Naruto? When a character is gone, they're gone. Asuma, Jiraiya, etc. When they died you just knew that something valuable had been taken away and that sense never lasts for more than one saga in Dragon Ball Z. At least in Dragon Ball gathering them was much more of a chore so it didn't seem like such an instant, convenient plot device.

Ofcourse they said don't worry we'll wish them back, But in Naruto no one special died, till now yes Neji died, but its not like DBZ where EVERY person could yes ofcourse they come back but atleast you felt the emotion when Goku died for a instance, In Naruto any key characters will not die, like Naruto or Sasuke.

Influence doesn't make for a good story. It means that it was easy for anyone to get into. That's why it's so popular, cause children could pick it up and no matter where in the story it is, it's all the same fast-paced action so they didn't have to start from the beginning. It's not because it was the best story ever, it was because humans are just lazy like that and if something is easy to get into and looks cool people will buy it.

It's hard to consider a person's opinion valid when they flame anyone who disagrees. It's pretty childish and it's sad if you can't accept that maybe, just maybe, not everybody else in the world agrees with you.

DBZ was made many years ago, and didn't have much other animes to copy/take ideas from, The makers of Naruto copied/took ideas from other animes, DBZ couldn't do that cause its so long ago. It is better and always will be.

If you want to be technical then no story is original because everything takes from other ideas. There is no purely original story so that's not really an argument that can keep DBZ afloat. And Naruto has taken from previous anime but that doesn't mean that DBZ is automatically better. For all it's worth it's taken a lot of what made DBZ good and strengthened it as a story and development wise.

Even if DBZ were completely original, it still isn't that great a story. It's as basic as it gets and it's just good for mindless fun.

Dbz was is and will be the greatest anime of all time, narutards who are too young or possibly have parents who are cousins would say naruto

I can't agree with that. In my opinion, Gurren Lagann, Code Geass, Clannad, and Steins;Gate are all leagues better than Dragon Ball Z OR Naruto.

Jiraiya? Asuma? Itachi? Naruto doesn't mindlessly throw out its cast for tragic effect but at least when it does kill people, it has the ability to make it feel permanent. Edo Tensei exists but that's not permanent at all.

And Naruto and Sasuke dying would make no sense plotwise. Goku dying means nothing because you know he can come back. Every. Single. Time.

NARUTO TAKES DEATH SERIOUSLY? OBITO DIDNT REALLY DIE LOL .......edo tensei????????

Remind me of a time when a hero in DBZ stayed dead permanently. Any instances? Didn't think so.

That's the problem with DBZ. Deaths are never permanent. It's there to make you feel intense......for about 5 episodes. For others, it's even less because you stop to think and realize they'll be back soon either way. You never feel that bad with a DBZ character death because nothing feels dramatic about it.

I felt emotion in one Saga, that was the Saiyan Saga. Before every "Key" character was wished back. After that, there was no emotion because wether they were wished back or used instant transmission to come back, they still came back. They didn't come back evil or controlled or with any new technique that would pose a threat, they just came back. There was no feeling for loss because they were all there. I mean at least if Kritlin stayed dead, there would be an understanding for going Super Saiyan. But he and everyone else knew he would be wished back. Even at that early stage in the story because the rest of the z force, who just died, were hanging out with King Kai.
