i'm not a Naruto fan, nor am i necessarily ok with Naruto lying, but it was probably the only thing he could do in that moment to clean up the mess Sasuke made. I wouldn't know what he was supposed to do other than apologize for her having a creep for a dad.
Naruto was usually in the business of trying to be considerate of others' feelings, so he probably figured he was going to have to lie in order to console her. Truth is, lying is very much part of the business, so i don't really see it as a huge issue in the scheme of things.

Much was the same for Hashirama. After hearing all that Itachi went through Hashirama felt nothing, but admiration at Itachi's life as a shinobi.

No the emotion he tried to get across wasn't lost on us it's the comprehension that was understood that was lost on everyone else, which is so typical.
