Coulson (Avengers)
"We stand here today, not as an agency or a group, but as an ally, a friend, to our fallen comrade. Agent Phil Coulson may not have had any special abilities, but in a sense he had something better. He had the belief in those who did and he sacrificed his life in order to protect those with or without those abilities. When we think of someone he stands in the face of evil, I truly think that now we'll think of him, an ordinary man with a special presence. On behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Avengers, and your friend, we give you our gratitude. Rest in peace my friend."
As Nick Fury finished his speech and saluted Phil's coffin, Thor was the first one to step up. The man from Asgard didn't wear his usual get-up, but instead his body was covered in black and grey king clothing, with the crown on his head. He would speak first.
"As you can see, I, Thor of Asgard, am not wearing my usual attire. When the son of Odin has lost an ally....a friend, he must dawn clothing representing said ally. Phillip Coulsen was a very tiny human, but his actions spoke as strong as someone of my stature could. This earthling stood and nearly overcame my brother, Loki. In the end of the warfare, Loki was defeated and my heart, my soul, believes that this man's sacrifice was the will and the urge we needed in order to save the world. For that, I shall surrender the ownership of this crown to him. From one king to another, I, Thor, bestow Phillip Coulsen my crown and great solitude. My the heavens shine brightest."
Despite the God's well kept structure, his eyes could barely hold back the tears, yet he did so anyways. His hands, the same that held the sacred hammer, shook the crown as they we placed on the agent's grave. Even a God with a smile as bright as his feels the pain and sorrow of a human.
As Thor sat down, Bruce Banner stood up. Removing his glasses and placing them into his shirt pocket, Banner's eyes glanced over at all the people and back at Phil's grave.
"I...uh, don't know what to say. I've imagined death before, I understand the science of it, but I don't know....what to say here. What does one day? I didn't know Phil long and as amazing and corny as it sounds, it's come apparent to me that I've felt like known him for awhile or at least he's left an imprint on my life. Even the big guy in all his rage feels deep sorrow for Phil. I'm not sure what else to say other than thank you Phil. From an adventurer to the human body to an adventurer to the human life, I'm proud to have met you. Thank you."
As Bruce sat back down, Tony placed his hand on his shoulder and smiled behind him. Bruce let a weak one back, barely containing his composure. For a man who didn't know what to say, he surely felt the raving emotion dancing around the grave.
Natasha and Clint approached the grave next.
"Clint and I were comrades alongside of Agent Phil Coulsen for the majority of our careers with S.H.I.E.L.D and despite it being only a few days after his passing, walking around the station and not seeing Phil with his smile or his laugh feels unsettling, it feels different. He was truly a great man with a huge heart. S.H.I.E.L.D will not be the same without him."
Clint nodded in agreement to Natasha's speech.
"Rest in peace, agent."
A man of few words, Clint may be, but when spoken those words changed Clint. The normally emotionless assassin was too struggling with his heart.
Tears were coming.
As the two agents returned to their seat, Steve Rogers stood up in a suit straight out of 1940's and a deck of cards in hand.
"People praise me for being hero and like everyone else here, I'm putting my praise onto Phil, but there's something I need to say. These cards I hold in my hand were Phil's and all he wanted was for his hero to sign them. What some hero I was....I didn't sign them. I took a moment for granted and in that moment I took a person for granted. Maybe it was because I didn't know him or I'm getting used to the world or I'm....still thinking about....my old life and my friends, but there are no excuses for my actions. I messed up and I'm admitting it. I'm sorry Agent Coulsen. You're the hero in this story, in this moment. In the army, we had that glue, that backbone and here, here you're it. The least I can do is sign these cards, from Captain America, from Steve Rogers, your biggest fan."
The cards were now back with Phil and were signed the Captain America himself, but there was one more person to speak.
Tony Stark.
"Hey Tony, could you-?" Steve went to ask Stark a question, but Tony interrupted.
"What is Mr. America?"
"Tony, have respect." Steve greeted him.
"Hm? What is it Captain?" Tony asked, clearly in a hurry.
"Take off the glasses Stark, please."
"Don't think so." Tony shrugged Cap off. "I need em."
And finally Tony stood infront of everyone.
"Phil, Phil, Phil, if anyone was going to shoot a God in the face it'd be you. Was that an act of a hero or an idiot? Who knows? But it was surely an act only Coulsen would do and for that I thank you. That is all."
Just like that, Tony was done speaking.
"What was that Stark?" Steve asked when Tony returned next to him.
"Sun got in my eyes, I had to hurry it up. Coulsen would want me to be comfortable I imagine." Tony nervously said.
"You had sun glasses."
"Yeah, well, must be a default or something. Too advanced for you to understand, I suppose."
With Tony's fake answer, Steve saw the truth. Behind those shades, Tony was crying. Tears flew down his face and Steve knew that feeling all to well. Loosing a friend is never easy, especially when you didn't get to say goodbye.
"I understand just fine." Steve's calms words struck Tony perfectly. Someone understood.
~R.I.P. Phil Coulsen.~
Just a small FF. Not by best in writing. I just wrote what I thought in an about an hour or so. It's not superb work or even "amazing," but it's a nice little story in my opinion. I just wanted to write something about the death of Phil Coulsen in The Avengers. He was awesome. Hope you enjoyed it!
