Apparently over in India, several dozens of people (around 70 people) were killed because they decided to throw a fucking Festival around & on an operating railroad track. As the fireworks were going off during the festival, they weren’t able to hear the train approaching which caused the deaths of many.

I saw several videos on it and there was one where the train JUST missed a few on-lookers and it happened so fast that they barely had time to react. IMHO I don’t believe the conductor sounded his horn because they aren’t easy to drown out BUT with the amount of fireworks that were going off coupled with the festival goers cheers, it’s definitely possible.

No disrespect to the dead but let that example be a warning to the living.

How do so many people get hit by a train all at once.. Imagine being the conductor and seeing that many people smearing onto the train. Maybe they thought plenty of people would notice the lights if a train were to come.

Who the hell throws a party on train tracks. Out of literally every other possible venue, why train tracks?
Stupidity of mob and arrogance of petty politicians in disregarding practical issues with such event.

Some local emerging politician decided he would get popular if he organised the festival in grand way- he got conditional permission from the police but it seems forgot to fulfil the conditions.+ The fireworks work were to be lighted around 5 pm but the chief guest ( wife of the politicians the newbie was trying to impress) reached after 7 pm or something. When the fireworks lit up it was like 5000 firework bombs going off at the same time. People/crowd pushed back due to sudden noise and ended up on tracks. Train driver says he used emergency breaks but he couldn't suddenly stop the train- it would have derailed the train and compartments would topple over resulting in even greater mess.

Now everyone is trying to shift blame. Police say they didn't give permission since the conditions they gave weren't fulfilled :|. The Railway says people shouldn't have been on tracks so it's their own responsibility. Organisers say administration should have taken care of it anyway. The poor actor playing the villain in the epic whose effigy was being burned tried to be hero and saved like 8 people and died trying to get the 9th idiot away from the tracks. ... Some people say they were not on tracks but when the fireworks went off crowd moved and they were pushed back as part of it.

God knows who started use of fireworks in this festival but it does little good.

I heard that it's quite common in India to board moving trains with multiple people trying to cram in at once, and I think I saw a video of people having small events or festivities near railroad tracks. So it's clear that the people over their don't really care about their own safety if they are doing things to those extremes.

Well, India has a lot of issues. I agree but this is not at all quite common. 60 people died. Yeah they were a bit stupid but it wasn't entirely their fault. It's a festive season now in India. Dusherra, and several society clubs arranges for all the performances and stuff in a certain place. But where the incident took place, they were aware of the crowding it gonna have but still did not change a thing.

We all know how much population density India has got... On top of that they prioritise 'religion' over anything. Which in my opinion is indeed stupid. It's not entirely the people's fault, govt. has it's share in it too.
