Continuing my Shadow Training.

I am so dreadfully sorry about my late reply. I have been full on with exams it has been so annoying. I haven't been able to login to NB long enough to give you a good enough reply that you deserve. But well, I had a day off school today, and I'm here. So let's continue shall we ^_^

L dusts off his hands after performing the technique, he looks up at Ezio who nods his approval. Feeling pleased with his work, L waits for Ezio to continue.

He watches as Ezio takes a deep breath before saying,

"Now, tell me, you know that shadows are weak against light correct? Provide me with the correct details about the relationship between light vs shadows. How strong light can a shadow overcome? Which elements are considered when you talk about light?"

L thinks over the question for a moment before forming what he believed was an adequate answer in his head.

"The relationship between lights and shadows really depends on the positioning of the user who is casting the shadow in relation to the light source. For instance the closer you are to the light source, the longer your shadow. For example, during the day your shadow will be longest at sunrise as the sun is closer to you, whereas your shadow is shortest at noon when the sun is highest in the sky and farthest away from you. Therefore, insufficient lighting can affect your shadow as it means your shadow cannot grow as big. However, this is not to say that the more light the better. In fact, too much light can mean your shadow can fade away altogether or cause it to change paths, hence the reason why a shadow's weakness can be light."

L pauses for a moment before continuing.

"When I think of elements associated with light, I automatically think Lightning and fire."

L scratches his head, trying to think of what he could possibly be missing. He knew he hadn't gone in that great of detail today, he was a little rusty. He knew though, that Ezio, would fill in the gaps. ​

L noted that it looked rather cool, he'd never tried that before. He proceeded to copy Ezio as he continued to speak, channeling his fire chakra to his left palm and making it glow.

"That was some good information Ezio, I hadn't know that information previously" L said pondering over Ezio's speech in his mind. He didn't have any questions for Ezio at the moment, everything seemed clear at this stage. "Well Ezio, as of now, I have no questions, so what happens next?"​

Ezio smirks, as he comes to a conclusion that his student had learned everything.

These sounded like pretty awesome techniques.

"So Ezi-.. " Just as L was about to open his mouth and ask his Senpai some clarifications/questions on the techniques, Ezio makes two clones which come dashing towards L one after the other !

A bit off guard, L has to think fast.

He decides that the best way to deal with these two clones would be to use the shadow smoke screen technique. L predicts that the smoke bomb would stop them from at least running towards him, they'd get a fright, and presumably stop and as a result, L would be able to use the technique as he has them in one place, and what's more, within the smoke screen.

So L does just this. He withdraws several small smoke bombs from within his pouch and throws them towards the approaching clones.

They land around them and explode, letting of smoke which combines with the smoke let off by the other bombs, creating a large smoke cloud. The clones stop within the cloud and assumingly struggle inside, trying to find a way out. This is when L crouches low,

L holds his shadow there for a good few minutes, it takes a fair amount of effort for him to hold his focus, but eventually, he knows that the clones have long since disappeared, and he releases the technique. His shadow returns to its normal length and the smoke cloud disperses. It makes visibility marginally more difficult, and this is when L gets an idea. He would use the second technique, the shadow sewing technique after all.

He yells,

And channels his shadow chakra into his shadow yet again. Once done, he then extends his shadow straight towards the unsuspecting Ezio he appears to be day dreaming. As the shadow advances towards Ezio, L uses shape manipulation to materialize his shadow into several needles which can jump from the ground into the air. He makes them do just that as they reach Ezio, he doesn't stab him with them however, he just makes them jump straight at Ezio's face stopping them just before contact.

This gives Ezio a fright, who stares at them wide eyed.

Holding the needles at point blank range at Ezio's face, L asks through his teeth, a slight smirk pulling at his mouth,

"So Ezio, how did I do?"​

The moment he notices the path of the moving needles of shadows, Ezio understands, its aimed at him. He quickly forms the rat handseal and forms a defensive wall in front of him, that protects him from the incoming attack.

L notices Ezio's look of dismay as he hear's of L's nervousness.

Just read a couple of fights in the battle arena. And yes, you pick up anyone of your level, or post a random fighting thread in the battle arena.
And please don't worry, it's a way for me to know how much you've understood the techniques. So you won't fail.

After his questions are answered, L does get an ego boost and says,

"You know what Ezio, I'm just super nervous because I haven't had cake in while. It's a withdrawal symptom of mine. Once I get some cake in me I will be sweet."

And with that L grinned and then left hurriedly.. he was starving and he was going to make sure he had some bloody cake before he went to battle.

One thing that I liked with your fight was that it had a good amount of description. This actually helps portray the Nara character better. Good job!!

As anticipated, Shikamaru would try and 'blow' the blades away from himself. L recognizes the order of hand seals Shikamaru forms and realizes the technique he'd be performing was: Wind Release: Great Break Through.

This, was more like God-modding. You can't recognise the order of handsel and tell what jutsu it is. You can at max say, its gonna be a wind-type or fire-type jutsu etc. Also, you need a sharingan to have great perceiving ability like that. So yeah....

The blades are blown back in L's direction in a gust of wind that Shikamaru produces.
(As a result, ninja wire becomes detached from blades - L lets go of Ninja wire).
Due to Shikamaru's gust of wind being initially produced from mid range, L has more than enough time to anticipate the incoming technique. As the wind approaches L (so now the gust is now about short range of him) L creates a slicing gust of wind which splits the incoming gust of wind, neutralizing it.

Description: User will create a slicing wind gust which is used to divide and neutralize a Wind attack launched against him. It splits an incoming wind attack of lower or equal strength and makes it harmless.

Immediately after L releases his slicing wind gust (So the wind gust is splitting Shikamaru's wind gust at this time) L reaches into his pouch and throws several flash bombs behind himself. As they are in flight, L performs the Rat hand seal. They land on the ground behind L and as a result explode within moments of being thrown and just moments after the wind is neutralized causing a bright flash of light which blinds Shikamaru. The flash of light also results in L's shadow extending towards Shikamaru and L uses his shadow chakra to maintain its length and make it continue towards Shikamaru.
(So even though the flash of light is gone, L is able to maintain the length of his shadow that the light causes and then make his shadow extend from here using his chakra- this is a benefit as it means that the shadow has covered more ground in a quicker amount of time as a opposed to as if he had simply made the shadow extend across the ground using his chakra from the beginning without the aid of the flash bombs. )

As the shadow approaches a blinded Shikamaru, L materializes his shadow into a giant hand which crushes Shikamaru.

Now this is what I've been looking for. Excellent use of shadow technique, along with the usage of weapons. You not only mentioned the after-effects, but also countered his incoming shadow jutsu perfectly by using a flash bomb, which worked to your advantage. Yes, the facts were also correct....about shadows being faster and longer in presence of strong light ( when used in advantage)

Upon seeing Shikamaru wave his arm, L stops what he is doing (Doesn't throw flash bombs).

As I see it, you had already thrown the flashbomb, and he created the fire wall after that. So I think here there is timeframe problem. Also, the techniques used after this, more or less had some time frame issue from both the sides. But I liked your usage of Shadow techniques and that's what matters for me.

So, ready to continue with the training?

But I guess this is a learning experience, thanks for the advice, remember it was my first fight so I didn't really know the limitations etc xD But thanks to you, I now know a few !

Molding his chakra into shadow chakra and channeling it into his shadow, L manipulates his shadow to spin around him, materializing it so that it cracks the ground around him causing small tremors to race through the earth. He does this just in time as the clones had made their way into short range from him. They are slowed down before they can reach him because they lose their balance, this gives L time to make his shadow materialize into a small whirlwind which strikes each of the clones as they lumber towards him with difficulty, trying to remain stable on the cracking earth.

Stopping his shadow from spinning, the flash bombs blind the 3 clones allowing L time to prepare for the next technique. Again performing the rat hand seal, L positions himself in front of the light so that his (whole) shadow's range is now extended. Using his shadow chakra, he makes his shadow fork off in 3 directions to each clone, because of this extended range, he is able to reach all 3 clones shadows far quicker than he would have been without the light, allowing them no time to regather. Using his shadow chakra, he binds his shadow to theirs and as a result is able to maintain hold on each of their shadows even after he calls off his clones flash bomb spam.

I didn't know whether I could just pick and choose characteristics from each of the techniques I needed? (O__o ) I kind of did. I.e. I used the network technique to knock down the clones (not possess them), I used the demon stripe technique to extend my shadows range.. (but I used my whole body, not just my hand as it did say any body part.. so as a result.. I didn't constrict them) It was just difficult for me to figure out how I'd be able to deal with each individual clone with a different technique when they'll all coming at me at once. So the only way I came up with was to deal with them all at the same time, with the same techniques, you get what I am saying ? (O___o )​

Barely finished reading the scroll Ezio sends a clone running straight at him.

L creates a few clones before quickly L forming the rat hand seal.

Molding his chakra into shadow chakra, L channels this shadow chakra into his shadow causing it to extend towards the incoming clone. As it speeds towards him, L uses shape manipulation and materializes his shadow so that they form a large 3D spike which collides with Ezio's clone, impaling him.

L maintaining the rat hand seal and his shadow chakra within his shadow that was now impaling the clone, manipulates his shadow to come closer to himself, which brings the clone along with it.

Once close enough L demands one of his own clones to finish off Ezio's with a Kunai.

One clone down. But there was no time to celebrate.. Ezio had sent another 5 clones running at him upon seeing the defeat of his first clone.

Coming at him from all directions, L performs the rat hand seal yet again and molds his chakra yet again into shadow chakra. Channeling this chakra into his shadow, he uses it to make his shadow surround him in a circular shape. Using shape manipulation he sends 5 materialized shadow spikes hurtling from the circular shadow that surrounded him, one spike in the direction of each clone.

The spikes collide with each clone simultaneously. The clones stopped in their tracks as the spikes keep them at bay.

As Ezio's clones approach from all directions, as they get within range L manipulates the spikes around him on the side that they are attacking from to impale them: and Soon enough all 5 are impaled.

Molding his chakra into shadow chakra, L channels this shadow chakra into his shadow causing it to extend towards the incoming clone. As it speeds towards him, L uses shape manipulation and materializes his shadow so that they form a large 3D spike which collides with Ezio's clone, impaling him.

L maintaining the rat hand seal and his shadow chakra within his shadow that was now impaling the clone, manipulates his shadow to come closer to himself, which brings the clone along with it.

Once close enough L demands one of his own clones to finish off Ezio's with a Kunai.

One clone down. But there was no time to celebrate.. Ezio had sent another 5 clones running at him upon seeing the defeat of his first clone.

Coming at him from all directions, L performs the rat hand seal yet again and molds his chakra yet again into shadow chakra. Channeling this chakra into his shadow, he uses it to make his shadow surround him in a circular shape. Using shape manipulation he sends 5 materialized shadow spikes hurtling from the circular shadow that surrounded him, one spike in the direction of each clone.

The spikes collide with each clone simultaneously. The clones stopped in their tracks as the spikes keep them at bay.

As L retreats his 3D shadow spikes closer to himself, he sees Ezio create another 5 clones.


Maintaining the rat hand seal and the circular shadow around him and the 5 3D spikes he had produced already from it, L materializes several more 3D Shadow spikes all around him so that he is somewhat enclosed within these shadow spikes.

As Ezio's clones approach from all directions, as they get within range L manipulates the spikes around him on the side that they are attacking from to impale them: and Soon enough all 5 are impaled.

Once Ezio's clones were all gone, L releases his shadow technique and also his own clones.

Ezio didn't send anymore clones at him so L let himself relax, sighing, he realized how tired he was. That was quite an intense training. ​

Ezio laughs out loudly as his student grasps for breath.

Ezio moves forward, to face his student.

Ezio pulls out 2 kunais attached with flashbombs from his pouch, before throwing it at his student's direction as he puts on his sunglasses. The kunais both narrowly miss both the sides of his shoulders as he looks on with curiosity. The flashbombs bursts as soon as it goes back behind his student, and thereby making his shadow move in closer towards Ezio. The moment his student's shadow touches him, he forms the rat handseal to descend into the shadow, and thereby hiding his presence. A moment later, having travelled all the way towards his student through the shadow, Ezio rises up from under his student's leg, with a kunai in his hand which he places it against his neck.

You think you can do that? Ezio asks, before moving away from the boy as he creates a clone.

Only one more technique? L was enthusiastic yet sad at the same time.. he liked Shadow Training. He watches as Ezio performs one last demonstration for the last technique. By the end of the demonstration L was in awe.. this had to be the best Shadow technique so far.

So when Ezio says,

Ezio creates a clone as usual and L paces short range from it. L gathers up his chakra and molds it into doton chakra. Once a sufficient amount is gathered he releases it into the earth. He then manipulates this chakra to form 2 clones made from mud that appear directly behind him so that Ezio's clone doesn't notice their existence.

(Doton: KageBunshin no Jutsu) – Earth Release: Shadow Clone Technique

Each clone then drops a flash bomb. This causes the unsuspecting Ezio's clone shadow to become bigger and move towards L. Upon coming into contact with L, L performs the rat hand seal and merges into the clones shadow. L now concealed within the shadow, travels along inside of it before rising up on an angle just in front of the clone and dealing him a nasty upwards thrust in to the clones abdomen which sends the clone flying into the air.

We did have one long back. But because we had lesser number of Naras back then, we had to halt the tourney.
