hello guys, do you think debates as we know them now are constructive ? like 2 people sitting and argumenting, I've never seen any use of it other than manipulation by the most eloquent guy.
why don't we do serious debates about serious matters for example for the problem of abortion, the arguments should be written and not oral, and the debates should go for years of serious discussion untill we see through the problem, different points of views.
debates about these matters should not be between two guys in a room for an hour, but between two groupes of specialists certified or between two institutions.
that's the only way I see a constructive debate happening, like the discussions scientists had in the past like the discussions between david ricardo and james mill, between einstein and freud, etc.
