constructive debates

hello guys, do you think debates as we know them now are constructive ? like 2 people sitting and argumenting, I've never seen any use of it other than manipulation by the most eloquent guy.

why don't we do serious debates about serious matters for example for the problem of abortion, the arguments should be written and not oral, and the debates should go for years of serious discussion untill we see through the problem, different points of views.

debates about these matters should not be between two guys in a room for an hour, but between two groupes of specialists certified or between two institutions.

that's the only way I see a constructive debate happening, like the discussions scientists had in the past like the discussions between david ricardo and james mill, between einstein and freud, etc.

I'm talking about biig issues here, just look at the discussions of the great minds in history, the technology restraint forced them to write letters and wait for answers, they took their time to elaborate their arguments it was clean !

and yes, if you're not an expert specialist on the field you want to talk about I think that you should restrain yourself (I'm not talking to you but in general), just look at the beauty, honesty and humility in these words : I don't know.

for example, why aren't there a deleguation from a great university in experimental sciences making a serious discussion with some selected experts of some religion ? a witten debate, for as long as it takes. that would be constructive instead of bashing and insulting don't you agree ?

Why should the scientists debate anything with the experts of religion in the first place.

Don't they already? Although saying people shouldn't contribute their point/thought(s) on a matter if they are not an expert seems unlikely, especially since the internet allows people to do that.

for example if they find that their are facts that show that god doesn't exist, they have the right to discuss it.

for example for the problem that has been going with the mohammed drawing, art experts should discuss with islam experts about this. etc.

out of subject : their are people in the west that have to clear a missunderstanding. they tend to think that sciences are only maths, biologie, physics...no these are one kind of sciences their are other kinds. science means knowledge, you can know about maths, litterature, history, religion, management, etc.

Yeah I know those are scientists too, you just didn't call them scientists in your post and I just went along with it.

As for the one above, as far as I know experts always express their opinion. They don't schedule 5 v 5 debates though, it just doesn't work that way because it would be stupid.

this is not the way they do things I agree, but I think that this is the way they should do it.

why do you say that it is stupid ? it's actually how they discuss laws in the parliament before they release them. this is the only way you can truly communicate and be undersood and understand, oral communication is inefficient.
that's how things are done in justice court to.

that's how theories have been built.
