How would we replace our brain though? Wouldn't that eventually die?
If I'm not mistaken your brain cells don't die unless they are deprived of oxygen. They last as long as we do since they cant replicate like other cells in the body. We wouldnt need to replace our brains then again that would be an impossible procedure anyway.

Not impossible, just difficult. New brains have no memories, which people clearly want, and a differently-shaped brain gives you different personalities. Just having a thicker exterior cortex makes a person more likely to be Conservative than Progressive (not a bad thing, just showing how shape determines variety).

To give yourself the memories of your original brain, you have to fold the brain in the exact same manner as said brain, making sure to not leave any discrepancies. To do so would be disastrous. You fold the brain by genetic coding, which we've figured out how to do. It's just reeeeeally hard. And expensive.

I'd choose the first one. Enlist in the Military/Special Forces, or hell start my own militia. Take out terrorist, and become a legend.

I'd choose the second one. This would be for long term goals, to become rich, to gain power, knowledge etc.

Only problem with the second one is that I don't want to be reincarnated as an ugly person.. Or a girl.. :|

Bruh, who are you fooling? You're already ugly.

Seriously, though, if you're ugly, then you can kill yourself until you get the body you want. But then again, you'd probably get too attached to your family. Wait, would you be a baby and still have full awareness, in this case? Damn, then you'd have to wait till you know you're ugly since most babies are cute.

So if Bill Gates invested $1 billion into one operation, right now, with the best surgeons and scientists in the world, would we be able to do it?

aging at a halt wouldn't like to go through school multiple times lol
Why not? You could have many different kinds of experience and grades wouldn't be an issue for you seeing as how you carry your knowledge and experience through your lives.

Replacing someone's brain means replacing thier whole nervous system too since the brain is connected to it. Otherwise you would have to try to reconnect the very delicate nerve fibers to a new brain wich to my knowledge ist even possible since its connected on a cellular level. Those connections formed when the human being was developing in the womb. Even of we had the technology if you make just a single mistake you are screwed because nerve tissue doesn't grow back.

All sorts of problems can come from damaged nerve tissue. You cant put a new brain in without taking the current brain out the body and when you do that you would have to connect it to nerve tissue so this problem is unavoidable. Really though I doubt we have the technology necessary for that currently.

what form of immortality would you go for?

- putting the ageing of your current physical manifestation at a halt, forever. Having all the time of the world to fulfill your bucketlist and whatnot. Still being able to die if, for example, you're shot in the head. Or the knee, whasevah.

- being able to reïncarnate with your ego and memory intact, ultimately eliminating your fear of death and taking your skills and wisdom from previous incarnations to the next.

Discuss the pro's and cons. (If you want ._.)
I would prefer the first one if I don't have to spend an eternity going through HS over and over again like a certain sparkling vampire.

The second one reminds me of a manga I am reading
Is it the one with the fighting suitcases?

Put my consciousness into an android and continue living with the option to eventually turn myself off.
Those koi fish will still outlive you.

Nice memes.

This thread would have been so much better if it was missing the first 't' in immortality.
Fixed.

so you're right about its sensitivity.

Consider cryogenics.

1. There are doubts about the likelihood of this succeeding since there haven't been many clinical trials and the prospects aren't well. The volunteer, Spiridonov, suffers from Werdnig-Hoffman disease[spinal muscle atrophy] so whether this procedure will actually improve his health is debatable. There are also alternative procedures he can (if he decides to) undergo before taking this route.

3.
Notice that he has a seat reserved at McDonalds. Priorities checked.

4. This pioneered the science of organ transplants.

When in doubt, ask yourselves, "What would the Professor do?"

This is a tough one, but I think I may be leaning towards option one more... Option two would offer some really unique/cool experiences, but I think I would still be emotionally attached to the people in my previous lives. This wouldn't really be fair for my new family; it would be difficult on me; and if I ever wanted to reconnect with the people in my previous life who are still around, this would be challenging as well for a number of reasons.

The meaning of life and death would change significantly in both cases.

If I was ugly irl I'd kms.

Shit is tricky. If my parents aren't Lightskin + Brownskin then I'm suiciding. End of story lol.

The first option but if I can add my own twist, I want to be able to choose when I die.
