what form of immortality would you go for?

- putting the ageing of your current physical manifestation at a halt, forever. Having all the time of the world to fulfill your bucketlist and whatnot. Still being able to die if, for example, you're shot in the head. Or the knee, whasevah.

- being able to reïncarnate with your ego and memory intact, ultimately eliminating your fear of death and taking your skills and wisdom from previous incarnations to the next.

Discuss the pro's and cons. (If you want ._.)

Don't want any of those but if I had to choose it would be reincarnation. Though if the you can die at all aren't you mortal? The first choice does not count as Immortality if I am understanding the definition correctly.

I think this version of reincarnation is better than the other concepts of reincarnation where you start with a clean slate, for better or worse. So I will take reincarnation.

The problem with the first is that people will know you are still alive and will go "what the shit?" when you are clearly 150 and still have the tight skin of a 20 year old. People will be clearly interested in why your telomeres have stopped shaving.

immortality means that you don't die of old age. Invincibility means that you can't be killed

OT: I would choose the first

The second one reminds me of a manga I am reading :wut:

Anyway the second one seems like the least troublesome. My fear of death wouldn't die because I would want to maintain my current life cycle as long as possible if I were enjoying it.

The first one means u watching your loved ones age and die leaving u behind and scientists wanting to study u to replicate the ability

Also with the second one if I hate my life I can just reset

Yeah the second one is best

The first version. The concept of living forever to me is...cumbersome. I like the idea of there being an end. But it'd be nice to never get old and the sickness that comes with it.

That's a huge issue indeed and especially because you wouldn't die in a Lifetime together with your loved Ones and if you are a registered citizen, you'd have to go undercover at Some point in time which limits your freedoms.

The first one seems like a drag when it's all said and done because you could end up floating around a blank universe where it's just you but if it's me and another person I can tolerate or even adore then I wouldn't mind because I could look past the fact all the people I cared about are currently dead but if that's the case then faaaaack that.

But I would most likely choose the second.

The second one. I'm not stuck at one age which can be annoying. I get to experience the world from different perspectives and times too. Also, what if I'm immortal but the age I wanna be already passed? With reincarnation, I can relive that time.

The sad thing is I'd see many families dying, but I'd always have a new one and wouldn't be lonely compared to the first.

Plus in the first scenario, I can still die in some accident like a car crash, which sucks.

Well I'm certain mortality means being in a state subject to death in other words being able to die on the first place. If immortality means the opposite than being able to die is not immortality.

His first option is biological immortality because the body biologically continues to live forever if undisturbed. I don't think it counts as immortality because the body is still subject to death.

Maybe that's what he meant but it seems to me like he meant pure immortality not, biological imoortality.

Funny this discussion reminded me that in medical science biological immortality is possible and may soon be something we all can enjoy. We just have to replace our dying body parts with new ones that are synthetically created in a lab and we can stay alive however we can still be killed.

How would we replace our brain though? Wouldn't that eventually die?

As you may have noticed, the latter option holds metaphysical aspects in the sense that the concept of "death" is different from the first option. You, your essence, your ego lives on whilest you label your body as a vessel and not that what describes all that you are.

It's just a hypothesis though. But it does make sense to look at it as another form of immortality. Don't you think?

Afraid we still wouldn't be able to enjoy immortality. The government will place limits on how long people get to live, because people need to die to preserve Earth's carrying capacity. Now when there are other habitable planets. . . . .

Imagine politicians, terrorist leaders, drug lords, billionaires all being exceptions to that law while we probably won't get much of a chance to live. At least that's how I think it would be if we achieved that.

This thread would have been so much worse if it was missing the first 't' in immortality.

So the first one is that you never age but you can still die then? If that's the case i'll choose the second option.

First one, because the 2nd one implies dying over and over..and over
