That doesn't necessarily mean it's a problem. Of course I don't know what's your situation with how the people you are close with act as Christians.
The idea is that you discuss with someone who has your best interests at heart and knows you better than strangers. That may be hard to find, but you should definitely check for someone like that first. If they do have your best interests at heart, than their status as a Christian should not be a problem. The point is, they'll be giving you the advice they think is best for you based on what they know, not the advice you want to hear.
Listen to what the people around you have to say, internalize that info, process it yourself, understand ALL possible outcomes and risks, and make what you feel is the best decision. Then, whatever happens from that be what it be. At that point, it's out of your hands and there's no point getting mad or upset over something out of your hands, nothing will change if you did.
It wasn't an assumption, I suggested going to people who are closer AND understand his situation better, not one or the other. He should be taking information from become who can properly assess his situation and plan a course of action that best takes into account his interests and safety.
The fact still remains that it's best to go discuss and handle something so intimate and personal, something that will affect OP's day-to-day life, with someone that knows the entire situation and of course also has OP's well-being as a priority when making said plan.
