I was watching Arrow a few weeks ago now and something started bugging me, then a few days ago I was listening to a song and it brought it back up so I'll ask you all now. Probably should be a DC comics fan.

In Arrow they called Ra's Al Ghul Rass or as I heard it Rahs. That's R-ah-s for anyone having trouble following my description.

Then I heard a song where the artist says Ra's that sounds like ray-sh.

I've always said it in discussions and in my head as Ray-sh, as most people I've heard, but DC has some input on Arrow so I was wondering is it Ray-sh or R-ah-s? How do you say it/hear it when you read. Does anyone remember how Nolan had people say it in his movies(not that they should be the go to definitive Batman)

So Ray-sh or R-ah-ss or something different?

I say r-ah-ss, ray-sh sounds silly.
It is actually pronounced Raysh though. not rahss. Rahss is the American dialect. Ever watch Batman Beyond? The kid pronounced it Rahs as well and Talia (Ra's daughter) appeared and told him it was pronounced Raysh.

It's like when Americans Pronounce Jorge (Pronounced hor-hey) and George the same. They are not pronounced the same.

As to how Nolan had it pronounced? They went with the American tongue and pronounced it Raz Al Ghul

Well, in portuguese we don't pronounce Jorge as hor-hey, we do it as George, atleast in a similar way; and I've been searching for the correct pronunciation for Rahs, and many people say that his creator intended for it to be Raysh, but the closest arabic pronunciation is R-ha-s.
