I just want to touch back on the fact that Zetsu was Kaguya's creation, not Madara's, and how that affects Madara's creation of the Zetsu army using the Hashirama statue.

We were always told that Zetsu were Hashi clones of low quality. However that never made sense considering they looked NOTHING like him. What the Kaguya discoveries told us is that they weren't really Hashi clones, just creations of the tree USING the life force of Hashirama to take form. Madara always referred to the Gedo Mazo as the catalyst for the Hashirama statue.... yet it was the exact opposite. The Hashirama DNA that Madara connected to the Mazo was the catalyst for a new Zetsu army to be made.

We know for a fact that the Juubi, the Mazo and the Tree were all essentially the same thing. Since the tree created the Zetsu, the Mazo simply needed a life force supply in order to do the same thing, considering it was empty of chakra. Madara connecting the Mazo to the statue allowed life force to be channeled and resulted in miniature branches to be formed from them.

The Zetsu clones were not actually clones of Hashi, just copies of the original Tree's Zetsu's formed by Hashi's chakra. They had minor forms of wood jutsu since they were made from his chakra, but they were not exact clones of his. If anything, it further clarifies a matter that was reasonably suspicious before. Remember the scene where Obito estimates he had 100,000 Zetsu at his disposal? They were linked to a small form of the great Tree.

The roots/ branches were a result of the Tree (gedo Mazo) being fuelled by Hashi DNA.

Thanks for reading as always.

But we know that obito and the rikudo sennin were able to survive extraction due to the large life force of the gedo mazo, so the mazo requiring power source doesn't make sense.

Black Zetsu > Kaguya's Property
White Zetsu > Hashi's cells
Simply not true. Kaguya created an army of Zetsu during her first attempted takeover of the world. The Zetsu belong to the tree.

But we know that obito and the rikudo sennin were able to survive extraction due to the large life force of the gedo mazo, so the mazo requiring power source doesn't make sense.

From what I can tell, only when the Mazo was fuled by Biju chakra or being attached to a person. Remember when Nagato summoned the Mazo? It required attaching itself to him in order to do anything. The statement could be slightly misconstrewed, but the Mazo itself has never shown any power without being connected to a person or without containing Biju chakra.

It was stated somewhere that white zetsus were humans previously trapped in Infinite Tsukiyomi.
Yes but the tree turned them into Zetsu. After they were put in IT, they got connected to the tree just like what happened to the ninja in this war. So the tree essentially turned them into the Zetsu we know. The same thing happened in Madara's hideout, but on a smaller scale and where Hashirama was the only required sacrifice.
