Chidori-Raikiri / Different or same ?

Gai says they're the same.

According to Gai they're the same thing. Its original name is Chidori and its been called Raikiri because Kakashi used it to cut a bolt of lightning with it.

But Naruto Wikia is handled this as if they are two separate jutsus and also many people treats it like that. As if Raikiri is an advanced Chidori.

So I wonder, is there something I missed in the manga where Kakashi corrects Gai and says that Raikiri is an advanced Chidori he later developed ?

This however was never stated in the manga as far as I'm concerned. So it depends on what you trust more, wich shouldn't be much of a question.

Same jutsu. People are confused because Kakashi after implanting Sharingan saying he completed the jutsu. Sharingan only allowed him to see better while using chidori so he won't be blind to counter-attacks.

-It's just lighting chakra on their hand.

-Chidori is A rank and the Raikiri is S rank. Having 2 ranks for the same tech doesn't make sense.

kakashi named it raikiri because kakashi used chidori to cut lightning, thats all.

chidori in sasuke hands tho, has been developed into variants. sasuke "invents" chidori stream, chidori senbon, chidori nagashi. also only in sasuke hands, chidori could be used to tame lightning.

I feel like the main differance is that kakashi can throw raikiri and turn it into a wolf or dog or whatever but sasuke can extend its length making it a sword.

Chidori is the basic version of the jutsu while Raikiri is the most powerful version of the jutsu: it focuses more Raiton chakra and more hightly focused Raiton chakra in the first place. Hence Chidori is A-rank and Raikiri is S-rank.
