Hotdiggity, it’s Naruto chapter 524 time. So this chapter continues right off from last week’s cliffhanger where Haku has immobilized Kakashi so Zabuza can cut him down. Of course, Kakashi survives this cheap move and continues with his plan.
I was expecting more of a drawn out battle between Kakashi and Zabuza before he had to be sealed, but I guess we’re pressed for time in this war with so many battles going on at once.
Heck, Kakashi’s only taken down one of the Seven Mist Swordsmen so far, and already the other battles in this war are creeping in.

As I stated last week, I was expecting a different outcome with the whole Haku dies again scene. My idea was for the familiar scenario to trigger a memory inside Zabuza despite his soul being suppressed; and that he would somehow break out from Kabuto’s control momentarily and willingly stop his sword swing just before striking Kakashi.
I honestly think that this would give the scene more tension and give some dignity back to Zabuza by showing that he has a will strong enough, even if for just a moment, to oppose Kabuto’s powerful Edo Tensei.
By having it appear that Kakashi was cut in half by Zabuza’s blade was a nice trick to keep us on edge, but did anyone really think the great Kakashi would die in this battle against some mindless zombie swordsmen?

So anyways, I think we can all agree that Haku’s suicide block served no real tactical purpose in this situation. For one thing, since all the Edo Tensei summons are indestructible, there’s no need for one zombie to protect another since all their wounds and limbs can be regenerated.
Haku should have attacked Kakashi from the rear instead of trying to shield Zabuza. Also, Kakashi demonstrated the first time this happened, that he has no problem dodging Zabuza’s blade even while carrying Haku’s dead body.
So I guess the only explanation for Haku’s actions was that Kabuto was trying to psychologically stun Kakashi by recreating this horrific moment in the hopes he will let his guard down.

But I guess to do this, Kabuto would have known the full details or maybe even witnessed the battle at the bridge in the Land of Waves. Kind of a creepy thought, but considering it’s Kabuto, I think it’s plausible.

So Kabuto’s little psychological warfare game backfired on him (who wants to bet this will be a continuing trend in the other battles?).
Instead of weakening Kakashi, Kabuto’s perverse act of forcing Kakashi to kill two opponents he respected and honoured in memory has not only strengthened his resolve in this battle but accomplished something no other villain has been able to do to Kakashi so far as we know…. Kakashi is pissed off.
Zabuza and Haku were never really villains, more like tragic heroes forced to work for the bad side due to unfortunate circumstances. We now know Zabuza only tried to kill the Mizukage because he was controlled by Madara, so here’s further proof.
Now in their first encounter, Kakashi probably didn’t know these details about Zabuza. But as their battle wore on and they exchanged blows, Kakashi began to realize that there’s something more to Zabuza than the berserker killer everyone portrays him as; that “something” probably wasn’t something cheesy like ‘a heart of gold’, but more like a sense of honor and justice. Zabuza’s actions at the end of their battle proved this and Kakashi gained a lot of respect for his opponent because of it.
This is explored in Kakashi’s flashback to what Naruto said to him in the aftermath of their mission in Mist country. Even though they were the enemy, Naruto’s encounter with Haku and Zabuza taught him an important life lesson that has helped shape him into the person he is today.

As a side note, one can ask why did Sasuke turn out so #%$ed up even though he experienced the same life altering event… but let’s leave it at that. My point is that even though they were bitter enemies at the beginning, Kakashi still honors Haku and Zabuza’s deaths.
And Kabuto perverting those honoured memories is setting off some very sensitive nerves in a normally cool and calm Kakashi.

We’ve never seen Kakashi angry before, but you can feel it building up in this chapter.
I think the way he so efficiently finished off Zabuza is just the first sign of his battle prowess in Kakashi Berserk mode. Funny thing is, angry Kakashi talks and gives out orders just like normal Kakashi.
For me, the sure sign that Kakashi is really pissed off is in the panel where he picks up Zabuza’s sword and tells Sai to shut up and do what he says. After seeing this side of Kakashi, I think we all know that the remaining Swordsmen don’t stand a chance.
Yeah, they’re supposed to be the uber elite of all Swordsmen in the Mist’s history, but just take a look at Kakashi’s eyes when he says he’s going on a rampage.

Other things that happened this chapter:
- Neji almost gets raped by a Zetsu clone while Kiba bitches about not getting enough panel time in this story arc.
- Gaara and his army detects the approach of the group of undead kages. It might just be me, but Muu the Tsuchikage just doesn’t sound very intimidating.

Next chapter: Kakashi Wins. Flawless Victory.

Lord8469: This is in response to Kishi making us think that Zabuza got Kakashi with his sword. If you think about it for a second, it would really lower Kakashi's level. Remember that Zabuza died when even Kakashi didn't even perfect his space-time jutsu. When Kakashi told Zabuza that he, Zabuza was not on his level, he was pointing out how far he had advance since that time. We even see him fight against God PEIN! So, I didn't buy that scene for a minute. Also, I think that Kakashi is capable of taking out all the swordsmen by him self. The fact that they are zombies makes things a little difficult for him. (My main conclusion is that, the generation that comes after is stronger and faster.
Also the fact that the 7-swordsmen stop advancing the moment they died!)

Lord8469 no jutsu!

Kabuto's Control
Note: Kabuto have some type of low level of control over the demons he summoned! You can clearly see he made the Nidaime Tsushikage reverse summon the other Kages. Indeed this is a jutsu that Nidaime Tsuchikage can perform.

Powerful Impure Kages
The secrets of the 2nd Tsuchikage, "The Invisible Man" is now on the move to formulate an attack plan. We get to see the logical fact that they have no prior knowledge of the other Kages other than those that they knew at their time of life. In fact, he was forced to summon the other Kages (Proof of Kabuto's control). This can be determined from what Mizukage said to Sandaime Raikage. Note that the Nidaime Mizukage didn't realized him! Also, we learned that Nidaime Tsuchikage had knowledge of the Nidaime Hokage and his abilities. This begs the proof! Did Nidaime Hokage use the undead summoning on the battle field to turn the tides? I think that he did! This is the only way I can clearly see the Tsuchikage learning about his abilities. Remember that this was during the second great ninja war when Sarutobi was young ninja.

Its strange that the Tsushikage detected someone with charka of the same type as the Kazekage (most knowledgable)! Could it be one from the same bloodline? Yes, Gaara! Gaara's father! The same loving father that tried to kill his own son! Hmm! Would he be proud to see how strong his son has become. Godaime Kazekage, proud leader of the sand village! A reunion to be witnessed!

The full force of the impure ninja is being made public so to speak. A few faces we know but what concerns me are the faces we don't know! Asuma, Hiashi-sama, Kakuzu, and Dan are ninjas we have seen and have a little knowledge about. However, Ginkaku and Kinkaku we don't know at all! The fact that sama follows their names mean that they were considered royal, strong, and influencial in their time (Cloud ninja - visible on headband).

Kin-Gin Brothers (9-tails Mystery)
This question have to be asked! What does the Kin-Gin (Kinkaku-same and Ginkaku-sama) from Kumo have to do with the 9-tails and its charka? The history of Naruto-verse tells that the 9-tails was first sealed by the Shodaime's wife. From there it was sealed in Yondaime's wife, Naruto's mother. From there, it was sealed in Naruto. The only two lapses in this history where we can't totally account for what happened to the demon fox is before the first at the VoTE and the Kyuubi attack on Konoha. Where does the Kin-Gin brothers and Kumo come into the picture. (Would like to hear Lord8469's and Melo's response)

Bloodline Expansion
So the in dept knowledge of the forbidden and secret of secrets are coming to light. This seems to be something that only the elders and special ninja have knowledge. Its common for Tsuchikage and medical mystics like Tsunade know about, including Nara clan as they are perfectionist in the field of medicines. Nara knew about the bloodline expansion and even had the knowledge that the Sandaime Tsuchikage had the same bloodline traits. Now he learns that Nidaime Tsuchikage have the same traits and is very surprised by it. This only shows the extent and seriousness of this Bloodline Expansion! So Bloodline expansion is the abililty to combine three or more charka types to make a jutsu. Like Shodai's Wood Element Jutsu, Bloodline Expansion jutsus may make something far more devastating!

Dust Element Techniques
What is Dust Element Techniques? Is this the secret art of Bloodline Expansion? We will have to wait and see how Kishi explains this! Did we see this bloodline expansion in action without knowing? I am inclined to think that the answer is yes when I saw the Sandaime Tsuchikage lift this giant Turtle Island and carried it. Did he some how used a combination of Earth, Wind, and Water to make this Turtle Island lite enough to float? Something to investigate!

Final Thoughts
Finally, Gaara is noticed my his father and plan orders are dispatched to all the troops. Sandaime Tsuchikage is going to war. Raikage, Killer-bee's brother have to deal with his impure father's return. Tsunade have detected a charka that she has long forgotten, Dan's! And, the demonic Zabuza is making a return. How will all of this play out for the next issue. Time will tell!

Preface
With the inches of snow at my door step and the city being locked down due to the snow storm I decided to take a look into the Bloodline Expansion Technique. I studies the Wood Element that Hashirama Senju with the conclusion that with Earth Element and Water Element, he was able to create a life-giving charka that allowed trees to grow. He was then able to mold this charka to form the Wood Element.
Now when you think about Bloodline Expansion, its abilities to mix three or more charkas, the thought of what can be produced becomes a hard but yet exciting image. With Earth, Fire, and Wind, all mixed together one might indeed make a new element called Diamond!

Question: How did I come up with diamond as an element?

Answer: Earth, no matter how small the amount contains carbon. Diamond is the crystallize form of carbon that was heat treated under great pressure. So by using fire (Fire Element) to heat up the earth(Earth Element) under pressure, you get raw diamond. The wind (Wind Element) will then be used to cool this crystallize form of carbon to give the resulting finished diamond. Cooling the crystallized carbon is essential in making the tensile strength in a diamond preferable, and keeping the molecules aligned (research artificial or man made diamonds for more information).
I will not be surprised if Kishimoto use this same pseudo-science logic to show that the Nidaime Tsuchikage display a new element called diamond element. To think about it, it can be used to form very dangerous weapons that will easily break the normal steel weapons a shinobi carries. Thinking about it a little, the only thing that might be able to even stand up against it is a charka infused kuni or sword!

General Darui shows off his power and the precursor to why he was made general. Black Lightening appears! Our Konohagakure young weapon master engages the enemy! Tsunada's lover Dan faces off with Chouza-san and the long awaited battle is at the door steps. Two brothers with powerful dojutsu that's comparable with sharingan engages in an epic battle. Leader of the main family against the leader of the branch family. Brother against brother. Master against master!

Interesting enough that both Kinkaku-sama and Ginkaku-sama knows Darui's status in the family of Raikages. From their words, he is the son of the Sandaime Raikage. We are finally learning more about the other people in the ninja world. And from Darui reactions, I would say he is somewhat of a prodigy in Kumo.

Alas, I didn’t find that much to get excited about in this chapter so I might make up for the otherwise shorter-than-usual post with some gripes — read on at own discretion As much as I’m enjoying the whole Great Ninja War arc, I think Kishi might have spread himself too thin in recent chapters by covering too many battles at the same time.
This chapter especially introduces a whole new slew of mini-battles going on that it make my head hurt.
It’s true that war is chaos, but trying to cover so many battlefields at once pulls the readers’ attention in a lot of direction and dilutes the tension.

This chapter introduces us to yet another two battlefields as Mei’s role in this war is introduced and Kankuro is again faced with danger.
We revisit Kankuro and his ambush squad as they encounter the backup undead summons sent by Kabuto.
Exhausted from their previous scuffle with Deidara and Sasori, Kabuto’s squad has no choice but try to escape when faced with the likes of Salamander Hanzo, Chiyo and Kimimaro… oh, and that sensor guy.
That’s one team of undead shinobi I wouldn’t want to mess with. Kankuro better be getting some backup pronto or his team will be annihilated.

The other battlefield is focussed on Mei and her troupe of elite shinobi given the task of guarding the daimyos of the allied countries.

To be honest, I completely forgot about Mei in the last couple of chapters.
I just presumed she was back at headquarters helping the other kages plan. I’m not sure what to make of their decision to send her on a mission to protect a bunch of daimyos.
They could have sent Mei because they wanted to make sure their leaders are 100% secure, but then again isn’t it a bit of a waste to send a kage to oversee guard duty? As well, doesn’t Mei’s presence make hiding the daimyos harder as her unique chakra could be easily picked up by a sensor type ninja? The only way I see them justifying this decision was if they predicted a high probably of Akatsuki making a move to take the daimyos as hostages.

This action by Madara is a little confusing to me as it doesn’t directly help him achieve his objective in this war.
For him to only send black Zetsu suggests Madara isn’t counting on the mission very much to change the outcome of the war.
That’s not surprising since Madara’s main objective isn’t politically motivated at all – he just needs to capture the final two Bijuu and use their power to carry out the Moon’s Eye plan.
So is there something else Madara plans to achieve by capturing the daimyos? Or was this all an excuse to have Mei fight Zetsu? To be honest, I would have preferred her take on the Seven Swordsmen.

I dunno what else to discuss here, really. I chuckled a bit when I saw that Darui’s ability was called Black Panther. Maybe Kishi’s just paying homage to the Marvel superhero; heck maybe the whole Darui character was ripped off of DC, lol.
The Hyuuga brothers’ reunion barely had a pulse, yawn. And after bringing back Asuma and Dan from the dead, all they are going to do is fight Chouza? Argh! And what is Kakuzu doing? Why hasn’t he kicked everyone’s ass already.

Next week: Darui vs Kin/Gin brothers = I don’t really care xd

The Kin-Gin brothers have an interesting story and its being told by the Raikage himself. It strange to see that Kumo have the weapons of the "Sage Of The Six Paths". Apparently the "Five Element Treasures" was a formidable weapon in its own right as it quickly drains the chakra from the person wielding it. In the era of the Kin-Gin brothers, Kumo sought after or Kinkaku and Ginkaku sought after the 9-tails demon fox as well. Though its not clear, the bothers are considered criminals.

This is somewhat hard for me to grasp! If the 9-tails was sealed in the wife of the first Hokage, and was passed on to the wife of the 4th Hokage, when was it free to swallow the Kin-Gin brothers. Because, the 9-tails was then sealed in Naruto after his birth and have been there ever since. The way the story of the demon fox is being told, we don't know where it was before the battle of the Shodai and Madara in the VoTE! The implications expressed directed the reader to believe that Madara had sole position of it. Knowing that Madara have the capability to summon the demon fox, is it clear to conclude that he summoned the beast when he fought with the Shodai Hokage? If this conjecture holds, and I doubt that it does, then me are again pointed to the further past. Kinkaku and Ginkaku was swallowed by the demon fox before it was sealed in the Shodai's wife. This is the same era of the Kin-Gin brothers.

The conflicting element is the trust that was being made between the Nidaime Hokage and the Nidaime Raikage. They were attacked by the Kin-Gin brothers, so that means that the Shodai was already dead, his brother was Hokage, and the Kin-Gin brothers lived a long time. From the Manga, they don't look older than 20yrs or 25yrs. I am still wondering where Kinkaku and Ginkaku confronted the 9-tails demon fox. Its not like the fox can hide as its so big, and its chakra affect a wide area.

Also note, Tsunade herself had problems believing that the Kin-Gin brothers had the 9-tails demon fox chakra in them! Another thing I want to point out, is the fact that only two ninjas know how to extract a ninja's soul. Nagato, and the first "Sage Of The Six Paths".

Good point sato4kaiba...... So just read chapter 527, it’s definitely an interesting battle that’s going on and we even get a few important name drops like 2nd Hokage and the Sage of Sixth Paths.
With still so little to go on about these mysterious figures of the past, we’ll appreciate every morsel of information Kishi decides to shed for us.
Yet although the Kinkaku/Ginkaku battle was filled with fast-paced action, I still felt the pace of the story has slowed down a bit.

This is partly because this is the first time in a while where Kishi has introduced “new” enemies with elaborate techniques/abilities that require somewhat lengthy explanations.
Yes, this tends to slow down the flow of things, but I appreciate how Kishi is once again incorporating mythology and literature into his work.

Last chapter I said I wasn’t too interested in the Gin/Kin brothers overall… and I’m still not, lol. To me they just seemed like all the other “elite” but nevertheless throwaway villains that Kabuto has summoned for this war.

They were created solely for the purposes of this war and thus disposable. Unlike villains of the past which had enough chapters and time devoted to backstory to help develop them, you know that these new villains have the life expectancy of an anime filler character.
They follow the traditional cookie-cutter formula of being introduced with over-powered techniques and have apparently well known and fearful reputations (yet never mentioned before in the series), but in the end are soundly defeated by the heroes and are never heard of again. It’s difficult to get attached to these ‘flavor of the week’ villains.

That said, you can’t deny the Gin/Kin brothers have been given some pretty epic powers. The backstory the Raikage gives even states that they left the Second Hokage on the verge of death in their battles – now that deserves some respect.
As if that wasn’t badass enough, the brothers also took on the Kyuubi and survived in the beast’s stomach for two weeks, WEEKS! Something like that would probably have drove any other ninja insane, but the brothers came out tainted with the Kyuubi’s chakra, making them even stronger than before.

So far, it hasn’t been mentioned that they possess any kekkei genkai abilities, but who needs that stuff when you have the Sage’s super weapons and Kyuubi chakra in your veins to boot.
The brothers themselves are based on villains from a story in Journey to the West, an ancient work of Chinese literature that even inspired Goku’s character in Dragon Ball.
The four powerful weapons the brothers possess are right out of the stories down to the unique soul sucking powers. The weapons are said to be out of a set of five that were treasures left behind by the Sage of the Six Paths.

They are said to have a tremendous drain on the user’s chakra when used and so can’t be handled by normal shinobi. The Gin/Kin brothers are seen wielding the weapons prior to obtaining Kyuubi’s taint, so they must have been born with an abnormally high chakra reserves much like Kisame.
The appearance of these legendary weapons themselves raises some interesting points:

1. The brothers possess only 4 of 5 weapons. How did the two brothers come into possession so many valuable artifacts? Who has the fifth weapon? And why do I get the feeling it’s going to be important.
2. The weapons are perfect for a Jinchuurikis as they have enough chakra to counter the side effects; I wouldn’t mind if Naruto got his hands on one after the brothers are defeated.
3. Despite how supposedly powerful they are, three of the weapons (the sword, rope and gourd) are kind of awkward in function because they’re not much use unless comboed together.
Plus, the function of the gourd is pointless if an affected ninja simply had the discipline to keep his/her yap shut.

4. The weapons appear to be bound to the brothers so that even after they are summoned from the dead, they still can be used.
This point was also demonstrated with the swordsmen. So I bet a similar argument can be made about Itachi and the sword he used (through Susanoo) to trap Orochimaru… does this mean that Kabuto can force an undead Itachi to release Orochimaru? (assuming zombie Itachi still has the power to summon Susanoo)

Lastly, I just found it hilarious that the Gin/Kin brothers’ unique technique is essentially a slap in the face to all character in the series who have annoying, over-used catch-phrases and are natural loudmouths…. Hmmm, can you think of someone who matches that description?

Latest Thoughts!

"Yoso no kin" and "Yoso no gin" is the element gold and the element sliver. I didn't even think about their name until I reread what the Raikage said. The Silver and Gold brothers. Kin is gold and Gin is silver. Anyway Lord8469, I realized something you said about the Kin-Gin brothers and the 5-ultimate treasures. The Hokage, Tsunade said, "I did know they wielded the Sage Of The Six Paths so-called 'Five Ultimate Treasures' ". And, the Raikage said, "Humans can't wield the Five Treasures." We see the brothers fighting with what we count as 4 treasures. The question I have is this - Is the name of the 4 weapons called the 5 ultimate treasures? Or, does the name give a literal meaning to the weapon?

Does five ultimate treasures mean five ultimate weapons?

I am to wonder if Kabuto have placed his hands on the most important weapon of them all. I remember when Madara forced Kabuto to tell him how Undead jutsu works and how to stop it. Kabuto stated that he still had a trick up his sleeves (Chapter 512:4 The Army's Battle Begins). Could it be that the trick Kabuto referred to was that 5th treasure from the SotSP? Its something to investigate. Even though he states its a jutsu, the also talks about the secret of the Sage Of The Six Paths. This could be in reference to the 5th treasure.
As I read the Impure World Resurrection technique again, I began to think about the Five Ultimate Treasure that the Sage Of The Six Paths used. Its the best weapon to seal away the souls of the undead. Now all I can do is wait for Kishmoto to reveal more secrets about the ninja in Naruto!

McKnockout, you can join. We mainly focus on the Naruto . We do talk about the anime as well. However, they were doing fillers which recently ended. The anime is back on track with the manga. The Five kages Summit!

I was sitting reading the manga as I do every Friday and enjoying the little fight between Darui and the Gold and Silver brothers. Learning the secrets of the 5 Ultimate Treasures, was interesting enough. General Darui used words to bend the rules of the game. I was surprised to learn that what the Raikage said about the Kinkaku and Ginkaku and the 9-tailed demon fox was accurate. We see evidence of this as Kinkaku transform. What was also interesting is that the ugly Kakuzu have seen his pesudo 9-tails demon form before. Now Darui have to deal with a power that might get the better of him as he realizes that the 5 Ultimate Treasures use up a whole lot of chakra.
Akimichi Choza is witness for Konoha!

Decent chapter this week, it looks like we’ll be fully committed to the battle on Darui’s front for a while.
Darui’s getting quite a bit of spotlight now but when his character was first introduced he didn’t seem very exceptional.
The Raikage placing someone as young as him as a division general was definitely a surprise but the way he’s handling the Gin/Kin brothers this chapter makes it clear this guy is tougher and smarter than he appears.

Darui has a lot of similarities to Kakashi: he is calm and collected even in the worst of situations, has a repertoire of powerful ninjutsus and the intelligence to analyze and strategize on the spot.
Even after losing two of his close friends to the brothers’ gourd, Darui was able to maintain his composure and figure out the secret behind the brothers’ unique technique – a very important characteristic for a leader.
I was a little confused initially about why Darui triggered the gourd even though he didn’t say “dull.” After reading it again, I think the reason was because he spoke the consecutive consonants for “du-ll” during his little speech and that was enough to activate the gourd.

I can see why it was rather difficult for the translators to convey this word-play from Japanese to English. Darui was really lucky to have avoided being sucked into the gourd when his most spoken word changed just at the last moment and turn the tables on Kinkaku.
As overpowered as the brothers are, I guess they’re not too bright.
Makes me wonder how they got their hands on the Sage’s treasured artifacts.

What happens to those sucked into the gourd is still unknown at this point, but I kind of see it much like Madara’s ability to warp others into another dimension – meaning Samui and her brother are probably still alive and so is Ginkaku.

With Kinkaku possessing the golden ropes needed to free a person’s soul, it’s very unlikely that the same trick Darui used on Ginkaku will work on his brother.
And with Ginkaku going into a Jinchuuriki’s transformation mode, their battle has now moved on to a whole new level.
I kind of thought something like this would happen ever since it was mentioned the brothers possessed the taint of the Kyuubi’s chakra.

Even though Ginkaku stayed in Kyuubi’s stomach for two weeks, it’s still kind of hard to believe he could manage this level of transformation.

And notice that he has six tails instead of the four tails Naruto grows when he undergoes this Kyuubi transformation.

It’s hard to imagine that Ginkaku has enough dark chakra inside him to sustain this level of power, which is just three tails away from a full Kyuubi transformation.
It brings back memories of that crappy Sora anime filler arc, lol.
I hope Kishi gives us some epic battles in the next chapter, but with Darui’s chakra severely sapped by the weapons he’s holding, he’ll need some major backup to take on Ginkaku.

Other things of note:
Cool to see Kakuzu in his fighting form again, and with all four masks intact no less.
His mention of seeing Ginkaku before in his transformed state means they have encounter each other before – but were they allies or enemies in the past?
