Chakra are part of Yoga- more specifically laya yoga.
It's related with spiritual energy and many simple yoga excercises to fix the chakra. While ballancing it can make you healthy, don't expect to perform Naruto world jutsu with it.

Yes it is, but it's not what they make it out to be in Naruto, Chakra/Chi/Kai/Force/Energy they are all the same thing (Life Energy), your average human uses about 35.120024 PSK an hour, thats an equivalent energy amount to a Stick of TNT...
Every civilization in the past believed that there was some kind of energy flowing inside(and outside) every living being.They just gave differend names to it. In ancient Greece for example they had the fifth element called Ethir(the other four elements were fire,air,earth and water).Everything on earth was a combination of the four elements.Ethir was the substance of the planets and lighting.
I don't think that they believed that humans could use ethir.Although there was another kind of power...Well, not excacly energy.It was called Ihor.To put it in simple words it was a chemical substance found in the blood of the gods(due to ihor the gods blood was completely black).When humans copulated with gods ihor was passed down to the child and it gaved to it superhuman abilites(like a Kekkei Genkai LOL). So ancient Greeks din't actually believed that anyone could use some kind of energy to gain any special power.Only those with the blood line limit could do it(i would write more but this is long enough already).

What is fake?Mental power?fake dude, no such thing. i googled it my self but it came up with a load of crap. It might be real to people who believe though. If u ask me, adrenaline rush is as far a super power that humans go!

There are people who can use there voice to knock a man out, this isn't superhuman though, a lot of noises have reactions for people. Watch Mind, Body and Kickass Moves, there are people who can do things that look superhuman, e.g. move someone without touching them.
Esotericism is a form of control, usually based with Martial Arts, where the user can do things to another person without touching them, I guess if it's strength was somehow increased, it would work the same as Chakra, but the human body is capable of it. It's also use in Magic like

Chakra and chi are from Buddhism. Naruto is highly influenced by Buddhism, look at Rinnegan (samsara eye, samsara is buddhist word for ressurection).
Look at this guy:
he mentions his chi has the exact same properties as Naruto Chakra. Utilizing Yin and Yang (Spiritual and physical respectively) chakra to create regular chakra, which is utilized to create effects or something similar.
Like what RaidenEK said "My friend told me once that the mind is like a muscle you need to exercise it. Maybe you didn't exercise it enough? :S" thats probably true and you have to practice mind as you do with any other thing to do stuff with chakra. Maybe people only use 10 percent of brain now because with evolution we don't use magic/chi/chakra or whatever you want to call it (probably origin of magic related stories) anymore and that we used to use chi/chakra/magic in the past and the wisdom has been lost to all but a few people. Maybe because people weren't trained enough in it, they used a lot over 10 percent, which caused injuries to them and adverse side effects, so slowly magic became less used and was limited to a few and gradually it became banned and people assumed it was an evil force and then after that people thought magic didn't exist.
About what one of the above guys said about doing anything if you believe, maybe that ties in with using chi and more than 10 percent of brain.

Nothing about chakra, chi or ki has been proven in a scientific way. Or did they teach you in school that mind controlling or lifting cars with chakra is possible? lmao people ..two of this threads..really?
only close example for sh*t like that is what Professor Sarutobi mentioned but that is just adrenaline abling you do stuff like that in life or death situations.
