Can Yamato defeat shukaku?

Yes because he has power of shodai, and shodai had power over Several bijuu. Yamato sealed a 5 tailed naruto, so with his summoning, in my opinion he could beat shukaku. but it would be a tough battle and yamato would most probably be critically wounded in the end.

Yeah thats a good point but kyuubi is also stronger than shukaku so that kinda makes a difference too, although if gaara became the shukakus jinchuuriki again and fought Yamato that would be a great fight

Beyond that, he's a very experienced ninja, and, let's not forget, Naruto as a Genin managed to defeat the Shukaku singlehandedly.

Yamato would beast him if there was a host, all you have to do is wake up the host, and yamato has plenty of long range jutsu.

naruto is a jinchuriki and he was using summoning tech which if im not mistaken is a a-rank jutsu so i dont think its about rank here......

So what if he is a Jinchuriki ? he didnt use any bijuu powers in that battle, apart from boost his chakra with the kyuubi's help, he's just lucky that he was trained by jiraya

Yamato controlled a 5-tailed Naruto only because he was wearing a special necklace which was given to him by Tsunade otherwise it would've been useless if Naruto wouldn't have it.

You forgot that Gamabunta was helping him, in fact Gamabunta played an important role on the Shukaku's defeat!
