Sasuke and naruto were the only one in the rookie 9 that really knew pain

They had a basic understanding of each other

They help each other get stronger

Naruto was basically the only one who didn't treat Sasuke like he was glass

Etc...

naruto cares to much for sasuke , while sasuke gives no **** about him .. sasuke only fears naruto ,, that's why he doesn't oppose him too much

Naruto and Sasuke are friends because their spiritual brothers no matter what the reincarnations are drawn towards eachother it's destiny .

Other characters in naruto have the same relationship as Indra and ashura besides their reincarnations.

Jiraiyia and Orochimaru
Kakashi and Obito
Hiruzen and Danzou
Rock Lee and Neji

And so on

No, their relationship is so forced that it is funny to read their "emotional" moments most of the time.

These are better rivalry relationships in Naruto:
Gai and Kakashi
Neji and Lee

Naruto’s relationship with Sasuke evolved rather unnaturally, from a begrudging respect to a full on obsession. Naruto’s degree of devotion to a guy who’s never really reciprocated in a kind manner is just irrational.add on to the fact that he's even tried to kill him, and it makes this even worse... Naruto was certainly the closest thing a dickweed like Sasuke had to a friend, sure, but these two were most definitely NOT friends in any conventional sense. The development was simply forced and led to far too many uncomfortable soliloquies about this nonexistent bond. They were teammates not blood brothers. Hence why kishi keeps pulling brother parallels out of his ass and retconing to sharingan sealing away love in a half assed attempt to validate sasuke (and obito's) actions lol

The fact that such a horrifyingly awful bound became the focus of this manga, being constantly shoved down our throats, it so disgusting

(For the record, im willing to bet money that itachi being a good guy was a retcon)

That's true. I especially agree with the bold, when Itachi's actions were not that of a hero.(torturing sasuke and kakashi, not giving any proper intel to konoha etc)

I agree with the ladies - it does seem forced, I mean they did start to bond in Land of Waves arc but Sasuke descended into darkness pretty quickly and even wanted to kill Naruto in Part II, yet Naruto was still clinging to him. I know that he sort of matured later on but Kishi should have instead just shown us more of their friendship development back in Part I and that would do nicely.
