If a Sharingan user can notice that they are in a sound genjutsu, can a simple genjutsu kai dispel it?
Can Sharingan dispel Sound Genjutsu?

Nope. Sharingan dispels only visual genjutsu (The most commonly displayed). Sound Genjutsu obviously isn't ocular and therefore the Sharingans ability to dispel visual genjutsu is rendered useless.

Sharingan can't dispel any genjutsu. It only allows the user to recognize when they're in a genjutsu.

You would think Sound Genjutsu would be the most powerful Genjutsu out there. Sound can travel throughout your body and cause vibrations within, since your body is 70% aqueous.
It's too bad the strongest sound ninja we've experienced are The Sound Four (three of which did not use sound at all) :|

Frog Song is obviously a sound Genjutsu, and the strongest we've seen thus far. The only counter we have for it is using ear plugs so you don't hear it, but that is assuming the people in the fight have intel.

If that was the case sharingan shouldn't matter. Shikamaru wouldn't have been caught in Sound Genjutsu during the Sasuke retrieval arc if a simple Kai could dispel it. Don't forget that during the Chuunin Exams Shikamaru was one of the few ninjas along with Sakura, Gai, and Kakashi who were able to dispel Kabuto's A-Rank Temple of Nirvana technique. In the case of fighting Tayuya though Shikamaru was caught in Demonic Flute and was unable to break free. So no, Sharingan can't dispel sound genjutsu...in fact the Rinnegan can't even dispel sound based Genjutsu as was seen when Jiraiya fought Pein.

Not even earplugs, refer to my other part of my comment where sound can travel through the water in your body.

As long as it isn't too strong then yes they can't dispel it with Kai, or by inflicting pain on themselves.

..Lol, but with all Jokes aside, Sound Genjutsu is pretty powerful.
If only Otogakure was mainly about sound Jutsu like whatchamacallit's Sound Wave and that girl's Flute...
I wonder how powerful the Otogakure Kage would've been. I would've actually liked Otogakure.
It seemed like the village would've actually been musical if Orochimaru wasn't the leader.
