Note: This is not a thread discussing Obito's character. Rather, it is a thread questioning whether or not it makes sense for Obito to be forgiven and to be allowed to return to Konoha.

After Obito was defeated, Naruto, Minato, and Kakashi did not want to have him killed. They felt sympathy for him and wanted him to join Konoha and "accept" his punishment".

However, if we look at what Obito has done, it is surprising that they think he could just return to Konoha. Even if he was punished, what punishment could there be for him besides death?

1) Obito set the Ninetails on Konoha. This lead to many deaths including Minato and Kushina.

2) The Ninetails incident led to persecution of the Uchiha. This led the Uchihas planning to revolt and their ultimate destruction.

3) Obito created the Akatsuki

4) Even before the war, the Akatsuki, under Obito's instruction, led to many deaths including, but not limited to:
Many sand ninja in the Rescue the Kazekage arc

5) Obito started the 4th great Ninja war

6) During the war which Obito started, thousands of people were killed

My overall point is, after seeing everything Obito has done, I don't see how Naruto could just want to forgive him and not kill him just because Obito regretted his actions. Even if Obito regrets his actions, he has gone too far down a path that he cannot return from.

(Once again, I am not bashing Obito's character. I am questioning whether or not ii is logical for his to be forgiven)

Having the people of Konoha forgiving him would be the most ridiculous incident in the manga as a whole. The guy is responsible for too many deaths to even count, there ain't no way he can just return from something like that with n hard feelings.

I understand that but Gaara didn't even cause close to as much damage as Obito did.
It's not the damage they caused, It's the principal fact that they killed people.

Sure obito killed more, but the point still stands, they both were murderers and the fact that gaara was forgiven suggests obito would also be forgiven as well specially since the 5 great nations have banded together.

Another thing to remember is that Naruto is on obito's side. If naruto forgives obito which he already did, He would make sure everyone will forgive him as well.

let's also not forget about sasuke. We all know naruto will save him from darkness and make sure everyone will forgive him as well.

As long as obito accepts that what he did was evil and wrong, He can be forgiven. Obito will still die in this war giving him one last act of goodness that will ultimately put the war in the SA's favor.

Personally i wouldnt blame him. He has his point and his victims have theirs.
While being impartial here and knowing the motives of both i can conclude that obito was necessary evil and even beneficial at that.
Why beneficial? Obito has provided a threat to whole world thus united them, and this victory achieved by all will make it a long lasting bond preventing a couple of next ninja wars where bigger number of lives would be lost.
Clearly it would take a big TNJ work to convince all the fodders of it.

Another thing. Your thread shows perfectly why obito is the true FV of this series.

the fact that you are comparing a shonen manga to real life history just makes you seem like you don't know what your talking about.

The theme of this manga which is fictional is that Love > hatred. Obito was always trying to achieve peace for everyone, the fact that he was going the wrong way about it was the reason he needed to be stopped.
