Note: This is not a thread discussing Obito's character. Rather, it is a thread questioning whether or not it makes sense for Obito to be forgiven and to be allowed to return to Konoha.
After Obito was defeated, Naruto, Minato, and Kakashi did not want to have him killed. They felt sympathy for him and wanted him to join Konoha and "accept" his punishment".
However, if we look at what Obito has done, it is surprising that they think he could just return to Konoha. Even if he was punished, what punishment could there be for him besides death?
1) Obito set the Ninetails on Konoha. This lead to many deaths including Minato and Kushina.
2) The Ninetails incident led to persecution of the Uchiha. This led the Uchihas planning to revolt and their ultimate destruction.
3) Obito created the Akatsuki
4) Even before the war, the Akatsuki, under Obito's instruction, led to many deaths including, but not limited to:
5) Obito started the 4th great Ninja war
6) During the war which Obito started, thousands of people were killed
My overall point is, after seeing everything Obito has done, I don't see how Naruto could just want to forgive him and not kill him just because Obito regretted his actions. Even if Obito regrets his actions, he has gone too far down a path that he cannot return from.
(Once again, I am not bashing Obito's character. I am questioning whether or not ii is logical for his to be forgiven)
