Madara didn't need Sage mode to keep with Sasuke because he never fought or attacked Sasuke. Instead he told Sasuke he didn't want to hurt him.

In fact Sasuke attacked Madara twice during that chapter and Madara never attacked Sasuke, while Naruto didn't attack Madara at all that chapter and Madara attacked him twice. The manga makes it clear who Madara considers to be the bigger threat -

Hebi sasuke is fast as V2 A as he was stated to be godlike speed just like A. After losing hebi advantages he still struck V1 A with base tomoe sharingan. Sasuke blitzes naruto who needs cloaks for speed lmfao. Even then naruto couldnt blitz madara so nice try but sasuke did. Naruto has danger sensing which is a greater form of sensing than sharingan yet he couldn't evade for the first few times. Nice speed feat that is.

Are you kidding me? Right before Madara encountered Sasuke he gained sage mode powers from Hashirama. He even mentions the senjutsu power flowing thru him literally the second before Sasuke encounters him lol. It's like you kids don't even read the manga I'm done here
