When you think about it, yes, because even Kabuto inherited all of Orochimaru's abilities once his entire body was composed of his cells and chakra.

Most of the time, no, it would be difficult and possibly not work with side effects or result in death.

Yamato is the result of Orochimaru trying to get Hashi's wood manipulation. In the 50 subjects or whatever only Yamato survived.
Orochimaru also wanted to have Kimmimaru's body intitially. If he could just steal his kekke genkai he would have taken it straight up.
