Can Itachi beat Nagato on his own ?

No it's not. Sound Genjutsu was Jiraiya's best chance at dealing with Pein, but genjutsu from Itachi might not necessarily be enough for Itachi, especially if he has barrages of animals, lasers, bombs and gravitational forces bombarding on him. Nagato can just release a massive Shinra Tensei from the get-go. Not a village sized one, but the one he used to repel Choji, Choza and Kakashi at the same time. It'd blow Itachi back and Nagato could toss a Chibaku Tensei into the air, which Itachi has no way of surviving on his own.
Depends on Nagato's form. If you're going with a hypothetical, healthy, mobile one, he definitely has the edge.
Clones that disperse when hit are utterly useless against a shinobi who has the ability to release a bone crushing, 360° shock wave every five seconds. Itachi is not winning this battle with clone feints, nor is he going to win by ''Blitzing him while he's distracted''.
Nope, that's sound genjutsu which effects the ears and not eyes and is also Itachi's and Sasuke's weakness as well and they only escaped because it was plot, the same genjutsu was used on Shikamaru and he wasn't about to move an inch and had to use his shadow to break his finger to break out but Sasuke and Itachi were moving their heads and talks when Kabuto had SM which makes the genjutsu even stronger, hence plot.
Visual genjutsus were never used on Nagato and for good reasons, he has the Rinnegan and is skilled in using it. Itachi didn't even try using genjutsu for a reason, he tries using it on Bee (without knowing about perfect jins being immune), made it so KA would be used on him and based his whole strategy for beating Kabuto on Genjutsu but never tried to use it on Nagato. I wonder why. Naruto wasn't a perfect jinch. yet so he could have used it on him but I guess Naruto's power was to high or whatever, who knows on that part.
