I am meeting the Army Recruiter on Monday, and I really want to join the military. I want to go to basic training ASAP.

I was diagnosed with depression five or six years ago because my mother wanted me to go to the doctor because I didn't like where we lived. They gave me anti-depressants and all that. But my depression wasn't really anything serious that would include things like self harm or suicide. I was always complaining about my life because I was a spoiled kid who didn't like to be told what to do about my stepdad.

Five or six years ago I stopped using the antidepressants.

Is there a possibility that I may still qualify to join the United States Army? I really, truly want to join in order to better myself and better my future and to serve my country. I will leave that I need to discipline and training in order to be a better person.

You can join.

The U.S. is desperate for recruits.

I read that most Americans don’t qualify because they are too fat. So, if that’s not an issue, you will join.

If you're depressed, going into the military will make it worse. Anyone who's ever been or has had family in the military would know suicide is a common think that happens among those who enlist. Even those outside of infrantry MOS. You're going to be put under a lot of stress by your higher ups, and your peers, and you will be held accountable for mistakes of those around you.

You don't sound like the military type, judging from all your posts. You're indecisive and don't really know what you want. In the military, knowing what you want is what's going to drive you. And this is all coming from what my high school buddy says, who's currently enlisted in the Marines, working under MARSOC, and what my sister says, who's currently enlisted in the Army.

My advice, based off what I know 2nd hand, you shouldn't enlist

I always heard the military is for people who don’t know what to do with their lives.
It provides structure, teaches leadership, sets you on a true path, blah blah blah.

They’re not going to let you join and they want all of your medical records. That need you to be clean and this month they just started asking for essay paper on why you want to be a us army soldier.

I just enlisted as a us army specialist
Dam glad I joined back in 2013 xD
I'm sure you can still join.
I mean I don't know the rules but it wouldn't surprise me if they take you in regardless.
Pretty strict

They aren't desperate for recruits if anything they are trying to get people out. Had one guy get rejected for a retainer for his teeth when I enlisted.

I think that's true for people who already have some semblance of structure and direction in their life. Some people go into the military cucked and leave just as cucked as they were when they came in. Not to mention there are some pretty shitty, cushy MOS's in the military like being a janitor, a journalist, computer technician, or even a musician. You could scramble through basic training being the second worst recruit in a platoon, and end working a cushy office job where the most flak you'll deal with is not getting shit done on time.

After learning how mundane a career in the military could be, I always ask vets which branch and MOS they assigned to before I thank them.
I am not depressed
Well, that shit is going to show up in your medical history, assuming that you weren't taking someone elses anti-depressants, and odds are they're going to ask you about it. If it's seriously in the past, I don't think it will present an issue, since it was such a long time ago.

So should I tell my recruiter and also the doctors at MEPS? Even if he potentially will tell me to bf mention it? And can MEPS access ng medical history without my permission?

Im pretty sure you should be good but Yeah dude tell your recruiter and he'll advise you on whether or not you would need to lie to meps about it. They arent supposed to tell you to lie but they will. And I'm pretty sure MEPS isn't going to go digging too much. I've seen dudes get in with all kinds of stuff they didnt report. I'm Air Force though so idk how Army works as far as their specific requirements.

I wouldn't tell them unless they ask, and if they ask, be brief in mentioning it. They might give you waiver, and let you in anyway since right now the military is seriously lacking in numbers.

I don't know if they can access it without your permission, but I know my sister had to provide her medical records for MEPS, so I doubt you're going to get passed MEPS without them knowing about your history of depression.

With depression you will have to prove you are no longer depressed. If you've taken pills for it that makes it a lot harder. Regardless, I don't think you're serious because you always make these types of threads looking for attention. Good luck to you.
