TO OP, Sharingan perceived Kurama while Byakgan didn't. That really is a solid feat for chakra insight.
But consider this, although this is speculation.
The Shinjuu is the source of power of both Sharingan and the Bijuu. It would have been nice if that resonance was even briefly mentioned.
While the Byakugan is independent of the Shinjuu's influence. I rest my case.

Their insight is different. A Hyuga can see Kurama inside of Naruto but cannot see it by looking into his eyes and entering his mind. That's a special Sharingan feat.

It's safe to say that Kaguya might have recognized Indra and Asura's chakras when BZ re-attached himself to her body. She had never actually met them before, and plus the Byakugan can recognize chakra signature's as seen with Ao and Shisui.

The Sharingan can read movement better than the Byakugan, but the Byakugan can see far more things such as the organs, chakra system, and bones.
