Hinata tripped due to exhaustion. Shikamaru notes that everyone is feeling the fatique of battle, despite the Kyubi cloaks still shrouding them. We all know Hinata was taken out of the action in order to isolate Team 7 for the upcoming showdown with JJ Madara and Kaguya. Plot is also the reason that Sakura happened to be the ONLY medical ninja left with chakra who could "potentially" help Naruto.
