I was currently reading a book that mentioned how people displace their emotions, particularly their anger. For example, an employee gets yelled at by his boss and gets really angry but because he can't talk back he just takes it, goes home angry, snaps at his wife who does the same with her kid, the child get angry and kicks the dog and the dog bites the cat. It shows how we surpress our emotions from the appropriate person to unleash it at an easier target. I think bullying is more or less the same, they feel inferior at home so they do what is necessary to feel superior in school.

So violence to solve violence.
Yeah it gives them a little perspective, depending on the person they won't only stop bullying me, they won't be bullying anyone else from that point.

The only way you will stop bullying is when you stand up for yourself. Usually telling any adult makes things worse for you. One day you will have grown tired of getting bullied and when that happens you'll ****ing stomp the other bastard and never get bullied again.

I always thought it was funny how teachers were always like 'No, you mustn't stand up for yourself, you have to tell the teacher!11!'
Horrible instruction on multiple levels...But I guess they're trying to hammer into students the idea of deferring to authority. First it'll be to the teachers, then to the government. Run to the authorities as a victim instead of learning how to sort out your own problems like the autonomous individual you are, or should be...

Humans seek conflict out of animal instinct. Many people never drop that "I am better than you" mentality even when they leave school, they just don't have as much time and energy to capitalize on it. In high school, some students entire existence has involved a overbearing or under bearing parent, so that becomes their drive to hurt or be better than others. Bullying is a horrible part of growing up, but it is, in my opinion, absolutely vital to your growth. What would u rather have for your child? The ability to learn that not all people are good through bullies who mostly only call names, or learn it when they themselves grow up careless and learn the hardest way possible. Not saying bullying is a good thing, but it is usually one of the earliest life lessons kids learn, and it's hard for me to think that I would be the same man I am today without the "Drive to prove them wrong" mentality. Violent bullying is where we must draw the line in our schools, and that is being targeted by many schools hardcore today.

And if they don't stop..... And if they bully someone else.....

That's up to the other person but I don't see it happening, kids are usually just acting out their emotions. No one is that determined to hurt others. Also like the guy above me said that rarely gets mentioned. Bullies get bullied themselves.

Remember kids, violence is never the answer! Go and tell your teacher about said bully, and watch the problem disappear!!!

Uh-hu, that's it.

Naw, just turn them into a bloody shag carpet and put them in the janitors closet. "Cross me again, I triple dog dare you."

They bully because someone else bullies them.

Thats one of the more supposedly common reasons...but from what i've seen and experienced its usually not actually true.If you've ever been bullied then you know what it feels like and I wouldn't want to wish that on anyone else so why would they start to bully when they themselves know what it feels like...other than to feel better about themselves ofc.

I've never been bullied but I've seen it happen and know firsthand that it's not half as simple as saying "defend yourself and beat them up," and it bothers me when people say that because not everybody can properly defend themselves like that.

Actually yes, I dont think anyone stopped beign bullied because he was good in poetry or math.

The thing is if you've been bullied for a decent period of time you really just don't have the energy or self-confidence to stand up for themselves. what do they do then?

I have to agree on the defending yourself that is by far your biggest right used to be bullied myself as a kid till i got sick of it and beat the shit out of him he may have been bigger and stronger but that sure didnt mean nothing

I could list a number of times that at some points i had to defend myself

But here is the golden rule never ever throw the first punch other wise you end up the one in trouble

In that case you would need to defend who ever it is that cant protect themselves i have had to stand up for a few who had disabilitys i even had the whole football team back me up on it

Well then they have to talk to someone, but man if you don't stand up for yourself you wont be able to do anything in you life by yourself, that's just sad.

Often people bully, just because they find it funny. People try to look into it, but there isn't much other than they feel more powerful and get kicks out of it.
