Ehh yea the movie really portrayed bourto as a little ***** but after seeing the anime and manga you know hes acutally really op and he couldve won the whole tournament with his skills alone. But when you walk into battle with the lack of confidence of course he only sets himself up to fail and being tempted into shortcuts(ninja tools) he couldve put more time in training/planing. He was to comfortable.

He is overhyped. In every battle he needed help and support and yet his fans insult Sarada who didnt even use her sharingan to beat him in a taijutsu fight and didnt even use her sharingan to pace and beat Ao back wards. Sarada always did everything without even the help of her birthright. That's something which must be taken into account. He is a genius but obviously not in the straightforward manner. Maybe it foreshadows his skill in using Ninja Tools but fact is, the tools are quite handy for an unskilled ninja to use as it can absorb, use Kekkei Genkai, use chakra blasts.

Nice factually accurate depiciton, I blame the anime is overdid things a bit with the Boruto D ride train so people have come to accept a false persona of him. They base all their estimations of Boruto on it and overlook such facts.
