I didn't say other-wise. :wut: But to say he does 'nothing' tho is a bit of a stretch. He can get pretty serious, like in most of his fights. The difference between Naruto and Boruto is that with Naruto he used to rely on the Kyuubi Power for practically every fights since from early on and manage to achieve it. Boruto Joagan does practically nothing so far except seeing dark chakra and S/T but even then it went complete dormant and Boruto has no access to his dojutsu at all.
And I can't really compare Boruto to Naruto besides on the level they're MC's and have a form of power-up, and at least Boruto earned his. He's also more interesting because of the mercurial aspect to his character. We know he's not going to be a goody-two-shoes for long.
That's not nerf tho. In the same breath you are saying Shikamaru was also nerfed throughout Pt.1 since he was lazy to expand his horizons and remained dependent on his wits for most of his fights. And even early Pt.2 Shikamaru was severely indolent, right up until Asuma died, which is when Shikamaru's will of fire surfaced, and even tho he was stronger than before, it didn't really make much of a difference. He was still overall the same.We know the outcome that Boruto will eventually perfected through his Curseseal powerup once he undergo through the trials which is why unlike Naruto, Boruto is seen as nerfed since he's lazy and yet he manage to accomplish in adapting every techniques without any kind of help he received from other. All this without any serious of training or powerups.
For Boruto it might be different since for him it's just an attitude and not an attribute, and episode 33 kind of speculates that Boruto will be counseled on his care-free attitude towards being ninja.
Which is the difference between Shikamaru and Boruto. For Shikamaru it was a major character flaw, while with Boruto it's just growing up. He studies, but he hasn't gotten a perspective on the ninja world, which is why I think we need episode 33, so Boruto matures a little and starts taking himself seriously.
Manga Boruto seems very different and dutiful even.
Anime Boruto is probably the only version of Boruto that seems nerfed. Other-wise, after meeting Sasuke, he starts applying himself.
