The difference between Naruto and Boruto is that with Naruto he used to rely on the Kyuubi Power for practically every fights since from early on and manage to achieve it. Boruto Joagan does practically nothing so far except seeing dark chakra and S/T but even then it went complete dormant and Boruto has no access to his dojutsu at all.
I didn't say other-wise. :wut: But to say he does 'nothing' tho is a bit of a stretch. He can get pretty serious, like in most of his fights.

And I can't really compare Boruto to Naruto besides on the level they're MC's and have a form of power-up, and at least Boruto earned his. He's also more interesting because of the mercurial aspect to his character. We know he's not going to be a goody-two-shoes for long.

We know the outcome that Boruto will eventually perfected through his Curseseal powerup once he undergo through the trials which is why unlike Naruto, Boruto is seen as nerfed since he's lazy and yet he manage to accomplish in adapting every techniques without any kind of help he received from other. All this without any serious of training or powerups.
That's not nerf tho. In the same breath you are saying Shikamaru was also nerfed throughout Pt.1 since he was lazy to expand his horizons and remained dependent on his wits for most of his fights. And even early Pt.2 Shikamaru was severely indolent, right up until Asuma died, which is when Shikamaru's will of fire surfaced, and even tho he was stronger than before, it didn't really make much of a difference. He was still overall the same.

For Boruto it might be different since for him it's just an attitude and not an attribute, and episode 33 kind of speculates that Boruto will be counseled on his care-free attitude towards being ninja.

Which is the difference between Shikamaru and Boruto. For Shikamaru it was a major character flaw, while with Boruto it's just growing up. He studies, but he hasn't gotten a perspective on the ninja world, which is why I think we need episode 33, so Boruto matures a little and starts taking himself seriously.

Manga Boruto seems very different and dutiful even.

Anime Boruto is probably the only version of Boruto that seems nerfed. Other-wise, after meeting Sasuke, he starts applying himself.

I am arguing that Boruto Joagan and his "outsource power" which is the curse seal hasn't shown any effective for battles that would be beneficial for him whereas with Naruto, whenever he went kyuubi mode it always ended up in his favor against anyone because of plot convenient.

Except that Shikamru has limited potential and was never keen to be seen as skillful and powerful as someone like the Uchiha prodigies, Boruto has great sheer amount of talent with greater potential than any prodigy we have seen. His ninja skills could have been easily polished and could litereally pull off large scale attack if he had put up good use in his skills for excessive training. We told many times that Boruto did little to no effort in training. The point is that when he does try, he could become even far greater than you had imagine.

Boruto has all other powers that will open door for him but so far he was restricted to rely on his own ability and intuition to adapt techniques.

mods should really consider splitting the base between the uchiha/sakura no life faptards and the intelligent members. looks like they already hijacked the thread since its not about sarada.

What? he is not at the top. He is number 2. I can read japanese, and Iwabe is #1. Boruto is #2. Sarada is #3.

The statement above is the context of the entire OP.

Especially the recent Boruto episode description and overall things that are holding Boruto back.

I agree, but just wanted to point that out.

I don't think "things are holding him back", he is holding himself back.
