To be very honest, I don't know how can this compete with some of this season anime series.
So, there were tons of things that I didn't like about this episode. I mean, this episode didn't feel like a start of a new anime, it more felt like a Naruto filler or a Naruto OVA. Just because Boruto screams (like a lot of times before: you know, in manga) "this is my story, and not my dad's!", that doesn't mean that I will see it like that. But again, I do understand that target audience for this are more or less children, right?
Still, tho... While I was watching this I didn't care about new generation children (Boruto and co); I enjoyed way more to see Naruto, Konohamaru, I mean, basically characters from Naruto. New characters that were first introduced in this episode seemed like they were created for that episode only and it felt like we won't see them again. I didn't even remember they names, their character design, anyting...
The entire plot for this episode was very cliché and the opening part where we could see Boruto in future felt really forced to me. I mean, good anime series that have this cliché storyboard push the presentation of characters.
The only things that I liked were some details like the animation of Konohamaru handling Boruto (very smooth animation), Shimkaru's son stepping out of train; Artwork is really nicely colorful, I enjoyed in some of the views from the railway.
