It didn't take very long for Rimuru to come across a village, well it was bigger than a village but smaller than a town. Somewhere along the way Rimuru had donned his signature mask. Making his way though, Rimuru had noted that the town was quite active. He also noticed the side-eyes, but that was more to do with the giant dog than the masked stranger that had entered their town.
With ease, Rimuru would pick out the local pub as it seemed to be the centerpiece. Before heading inside he would command Ranga to wait outside, mostly due to him not able to fit though the door. Even before he crossed the threshold, the smell of alcohol hit him and was even amplified by his keen sense of smell. It was so strong that it would nearly cause any lightweight to instantly get drunk.
Rimuru would mosey his way up to the bar, with only a few of the patrons even taking the time to eye him, with the others to lost in either their conversations or drink.
What'll it be?
What? Rimuru said in surprise as he was expecting some sort of accent or dialect but the man before him had neither. Uh whatever you recommend. As the man was fixing his drink Rimuru would ask about this place.
Handing the customer his drink the barkeep would answer. Sir, this is just a small town on Bonsai Island. Are you lost?
Ignoring the question, Rimuru would recall the map he had memorized and sure enough he was somehow in the complete opposite to where he wanted to go. Sighing he would then ask. Any info you can part with?
The barkeep would simple give Rimuru a look that said you know what to do. Rolling his eyes behind his mask he would produce forth three coins, one for the drink and two for the wanted info.
Coins would clink as he pocketed them before speaking. The normal trade route from the west is being block by a monstrous creature. Perhaps you had a run in with it? Rumor is that an ominous black smoke was seen raising into the sky somewhere in the western lands and ever since then strange things have been appearing, like that sea monster.
Anything else? Rimuru asked swirling his drink. The only answer he would get was the same look as before. Rimuru would simply and shrug and finally down his drink. Even before it touched his lips it started to burn, it then burned all the way down and he feared that it would even burn coming out. Fighting back the coughing fit, Rimuru would stand up to make his way out, but the barkeep would give one last piece of advice.
Be careful of the bonsai forest. He would say with a somewhat ominous tone. Rimuru would simply wave his hand in acknowledgement as this was clearly a provocation and not an actual warning.
Leaving the pub, Rimuru would look to collect Ranga. Who to his bewilderment had become something of a celebrity among the children. Rimuru could only shake his head as he called for Ranga, who seemed to have gained multiple pounds from the children feeding him. While sad the children waved bye to their short lived friend.
What Rimuru was going to do next was a up in the air but what he knew for sure was that he wasn't gonna fall for the provocation of the barkeep.
