Bleach: The Royal Guard Chapter One: A New Beginning
It was the start of another beautiful, boring day in the Soul Society. The sun was shining through a light layer of clouds and a gentle breeze was stirring the fallen leaves of the fall making an orange and red blend. The Captain of the 11th Squad, Kenpachi Gekidu was sitting atop the steps leading up to his room. Each breath took in a new gust of cool, crisp fall air. It was the perfect day, it was serene, calm, soothing, beautiful and calm; and it made Gekidu sick.
??????: "Geeeekkkkkiiiiiiii!!!!!!!"
A small woman came running up the steps waving her arms with a large smile on her face. She had long blue hair that stopped just under her shoulders. Her eyes were the same color blue as the sky above. Her shoulder revealed a band with the symbol for the 11th squad vice captain.
Kenpachi Gekidu: "Hmph, why the hell are you so cheery Dokikyu?"
Dokikyu: "Huh? Isn't it obvious Geki? Its a beautiful day!"
There was something special about Dokikyu, her smile was contagious. The mere sight of it, stretching from ear to ear, brought a smile to Gekidu's face; something that rarely ever happened.
Kenpachi Gekidu: "Heh, Doki you really are something else. But you know this type of atmosphere just doesn't sit well with me. I need something to do, someone to fight!"
Dokikyu: "Ya ya I know Geki, always with this fighting. You know, it wouldn't do you some harm to take it easy once in a while."
Dokikyu jumped onto Gekidu's lap and threw her arms around his neck then stared into his eyes.
Dokikyu: "Besides, whens the last time we really spent some time together?"
Kenpachi Gekidu: "Hmmm.....it has been a while hasn't it. I'm sorry if it seems like I've been a little distant, I've just had a lot on my mind lately. This whole situation.....its such a burden."
Dokikyu: "I know Geki, but don't worry so much about it. Theres nothing we can do at this point until they make a nomination."
Kenpachi Gekidu: "Its not that......its just......for two of them to be killed so easy.....it must have been an incredible opponent. Its the Royal Guard for christ sakes....." *A big grin came onto Gekidu's face* "Imagine the power it takes to do something like that.....I wish I could meet him."
Dokikyu: *sigh* "You know I don't like when you talk like that Geki. Now come on, lets go inside, let me take your mind off it.
If you know what I mean."
Kenpachi Gekidu: "Haha, you know how to get to me.
Gekidu took Dokikyu in his arms and carried her up the stairs into his room, shutting the door behind him.

Gekidu was awoken by a loud bell ringing. He let out a loud yawn and gently lift Dokikyu's head off his bare chest. He got up and put on his Haori. The haori was torn in many different places due to all the battles Gekidu had been in. It was a symbol of his tenacity and his will to win. He placed a gentle kiss on Dokikyu's forehead; she let out a light giggle and slowly opened her eyes.
Dokikyu: "heh, where ya goin Geki?"
Kenpachi Gekidu: "Its the bell, they're calling a Captain's meeting. This might be it."
Dokikyu: "Oh my God? Really?! I didn't expect it to come so soon!"
Kenpachi Gekidu: "Ya, neither did I. Well I have to go. I'll see you later."
*he placed a gentle kiss on her lips and walked out the door.*

Gekidu pushed open the door to the Captain's hall and walked in. The rest of the Captains were already in formation, it seems they were waiting for him. He let out a quick grunt of discuss. Gekidu was never for the whole "respect" and "protocol" mentality of the rest of the Shinigami. He stepped into his position in the formation and the meeting began.
When Yamamoto passed away, there was a long void for the position as debates raged over who should be promoted. In the end it was settled on Shunsui Kyoraku. His overall demeanor was laid back, and quite unprofessional, but when it came down to it, he was the most powerful of the remaining captains.
Shunsui: "Well, I think we all know what this is about. A week ago today 2 members of the Royal Guard, Sajin Komamaru and Byakuya Kuchiki were killed."
Everyone diverted their eyes to Captain of the 6th squad, Rukia Kuchiki. She was looking down and everyone saw one tear roll down her face.
Shunsui: "Today we received word from the Royal Guard. They have made their nominations. Will the Captain of the Kido Corps Majikku and the Captain of the 11th Squad Kenpachi Gekidu please step forward. The rest of you are dismissed."
