Bleach: The Lost Order
Episode 7: Forget Them
The Captains stood with Goro in a group at the edge of a dark, circular room lit faintly by only a few dark candles. The room was far underground, and the air was stale and stagnant. The walls seemed to have a demonic energy radiating from them, and the Captains felt as if they were standing in a tomb.
Goro: Well, who wants to go first?
All of the Captains felt a shock of fear suddenly run through them.
Kaze: Ummm, what exactly are you going to do again?
Goro: I'm going to sever your reiatsu's connection to your heart. Perfectly safe.
Kaze: Riiiight.....
Goro: Would you like to go first, Kaze?
Kaze: Ummm..... No.
Goro: Well, SOMEONE does. And you saw Soul Society TEARING into our dimension, so it's not exactly like we have all the time in the world for this. So either someone step forward, or I'll just choose one of you.
None of the Captains moved.
Goro: All right. Rag, get up here.
Ragnaroc: 0_o
Goro pulled Ragnaroc forward out of the crowd of frightened Captains, leading him into the center of the circular room.
Goro: Sit.
Ragnaroc sat down on the floor cross-legged, his eye looking nervously from left to right.
Goro: All right. Now, once I start the procedure, you're going to fall into a trance. You will have to overcome your greatest fears and sorrows. You must push them all out of your being so that I can free your heart from their grasp. You will still feel fear and sorrow, but you will not be hindered by them in battle.
Ragnaroc: *nod* 0_0
Goro: And Rag... if you die in your mind, your mind dies. You will become a vegetable.
Ragnaroc: Beautiful.
Goro moved to the edge of the room opposite the entrance, and sat down with his back to the wall. Ragnaroc and the Captains turned to face him.
Goro clasped his hands together, closed his eyes, and began to channel his reiatsu into the room itself. The stale air whirled around Goro. Suddenly, a bright purple star within a circle appeared on the floor, and its light filled the room. The same bright purple light flashed from the walls and ceiling of the room, and Ragnaroc's eyes shut. The whirling of Goro's reiatsu was soon deafening, and the Captains' robes were being whipped from side to side.
Emperor: *shouting* How long is he going to be in the trance?
Goro: Oh, not long at all. Time moves much faster within the mind.
Within Ragnaroc's mind...
Ragnaroc stood alone in the middle of a vast, expansive desert. The ground was tan, perfectly smooth and not cracked in any places. A few small lava pools dotted the desert ground, and the sun was small but emitted a very bright light.
Ragnaroc: Not this place...
Ragnaroc had come to this place many times before. It was a place of desperation and desolation - of hatred and horror. It was the place of Ragnaroc's nightmares.
On the horizon, there was a figure walking towards Ragnaroc. It was walking very quickly - very angrily.
Ragnaroc: Oh, god...
As the figure got closer, it became clear who it was.
Soifon: Oh, hello, Rag. What the hell do you think you're doing here?
Ragnaroc: I... umm, I w-
Soifon: Shut up!
Soifon smacked Ragnaroc across the face.
Soifon: Who do you think you are? You're NO ONE. You only care about yourself - I could care LESS about you. You're a completely insignificant bug, and I'm the foot that's going to smash your brains out.
Soifon drew her Zanpakuto, wound her arm back, and pretended to attack Ragnaroc, stopping her swing just short of his shoulder. Ragnaroc flinched slightly, and Soifon erupted in laughter.
Ragnaroc: Soifon...
Soifon: HAHAHAHAHAHA- WHAT?
Ragnaroc: ...You're dead. Ali killed you.
Soifon continued to cackle with laughter as Ragnaroc said these words. Slowly, she began to fade out of existence, her laughter becoming softer and softer as her body became transparent. Eventually, she faded into nothingness. Ragnaroc shivered, as if his fear had at last left him.
Ragnaroc began to walk towards the horizon, noticing that the lava pools dotting the landscape had disappeared. Everything seemed cooler.
Ahead of him, Ragnaroc saw three black shapes, their features unidentifiable from the distance.
Ragnaroc: ...What?
Ragnaroc had not seen this in his nightmares before, but as he approached the shapes, he knew very well what they were.
Ragnaroc: Oh my god.
Three bodies lay on the floor. One of them had a slice on its neck. One of them was completely disfigured, all of its skin removed, its only recognizable feature its grinning, white mouth. The third figure was completely burned, its limbs mere stumps and its facial features completely gone.
Ragnaroc: ...No....... Bishamon... Urahara... Ali......
Bishamon's eyes opened, and he sat up. He looked at Ragnaroc, and opened his mouth, as if trying to say something. Blood began to pour out of the wound on his neck, and the whites of his eyes soon turned red. He leaned forward and grabbed Ragnaroc's leg, as if trying to say "Help me". His blood began to pour down Ragnaroc's white pantsleg.
Ragnaroc: No... I can't do anything, Bishamon!
Urahara sat up, his white, grinning teeth gleaming in the bright sun. He began to laugh uncontrollably, blood shooting out of his mouth with each laugh.
Ragnaroc: Urahara! No, stop!
Ali's charred body sat up very slowly, Ragnaroc unbearably watching its movements. Very gradually, Ali lifted up his charred stump of an arm to reach towards Ragnaroc. He struggled to lift it, and just as the arm was at the top of its reach, it fell off, crunching onto the ground.
Ragnaroc: No, no!! I can't help you! You're all gone!! Get away!!!! Get away, ALL OF YOU!
Ragnaroc lifted his hand.
Ragnaroc: Hado 31: Shakkaho (Shot of Red Fire)!
A blast of red energy shot out of Ragnaroc's palm, creating a small explosion on the three figures in front of him. After the smoke from the explosion had settled, the figures were gone. Ragnaroc, weeping, moved on slowly. The blood on the leg of his pants was still there.
The sun's light had decreased in intensity, and grass began to sprout all throughout the desert as Ragnaroc was walking. Ragnaroc paused and looked around. He knew that it was over. He knew that he had been freed.
Ragnaroc opened his eyes and gasped for air.
Roku: Rag!
Roku rushed over to Ragnaroc. The circular room was no longer lit by the purple light, and the air had resettled.
Roku: Are you all right?
Ragnaroc: *panting* Yeah... yeah.
Everyone stood still for a moment, knowing that something important had gone on while Ragnaroc was in the trance.
Goro: Well, who's next?
The remaining Captains stared at each other nervously.
On the top of the Seireitei Hill, Captain Commander Yammamoto stood alone. A low-ranking Shinigami ran up to him.
Shinigami: Captain Commander! A squadron of Shinigami was found dead in the hills below the area Soul Society is entering.
Yammamoto: Good, good... Looks like we won't have to search for the dear former Captains...
-TWO HOURS LATER IN LAS NOCHES 2.0-
The Captains and Goro stood outside in the hills above the entrance to Las Noches 2.0. They were all wearing Arrancar robes, their hands resting on their Zanpakutos and their gaze resting on Soul Society, which had almost finished tearing into their dimension.
Roku: It's time.
The other Captains and Goro all nodded.
Goro: HOLLOWS, ASSEMBLE!!
