I've read all of Tolkien and I enjoyed the Silmarillion but was more in awe of the amount of thought that went into creating Middle Earth. Setting that aside, I still feel that the 3rd age made for a better read.

I second the ASOI&F (GoT is awesome, but hands down - so is whole series xd). I also liked The Night Angel Trilogy, but god I hate that weird and altogether sad ending... It didn't have to end that way Setting all these books aside, I personally find Sword of Truth series as the best. It has romance, real-life lessons, characters with all sorts of viewpoints on life, cunning moments (although I've got to admit, when it gets to being cunning ASOI&F characters literally own that field) and whatnot. I reread it every now and then xd

"Deathbringer" by Bryan Smith. Its about an evil entity that unleasshes hell on earth and he choses a man's wife that was killed at that time to be the "Prime" (meaning she's like the strongest zombie on earth unless she gets killed by the one she loves) and its very gory and disturbing but pretty interesting. I got it on ebay a week ago.

Oops forgot to mention...the Deathbringer wants to control earth and gain so much power to destroy god.
