On Bernie Sanders plans to pay for things he cites

"Paid for by imposing a tax on Wall Street speculators that would generate about $300 billion in revenue." As his solution for his "College for All" Plan.

But According to the institute of Economic Affairs, this tax would be unproductive for generation of revenue

Key findings of the report:
:The FTT looks like an exercise in European Commission self-interest. This is an excuse for the Commission to get more money directly in a way that will make it less accountable. A high proportion of that money will come from Britain.
:It is highly likely, that no net revenue would be raised by the FTT as it would shrink the overall economy, according to the Commission's own estimates, by nearly 2%
:The costs of the FTT would ultimately be borne by consumers of financial products – future pensioners, mortgage customers and so on.
:The FTT is likely to increase volatility by reducing liquidity and the ability to hedge – the opposite of what proponents claim.
:It would not help address any of the Eurozone’s current problems – it is a deliberate distraction from them.
:An FTT would not help reduce the likelihood of a future financial crash.
:If the FTT is not agreed on a global scale we would see trading relocate to other areas of the world.

Commenting on the report, Mark Littlewood, Director General at the Institute of Economic Affairs, said:
“This tax was conceived through resentment, then supported by narrow self-interest and is now being considered in desperation. It offers nothing to improve the security, stability or profitability of financial services, a crucial sector of the United Kingdom’s economy.
“Of all the things you could tax, to choose to penalise the goose that lays the golden egg is utterly wrongheaded. We must not let anger about the financial crisis lead us to adopt policies in a blind fury with serious, negative consequences on the economy for years to come.”

Prof. Philip Booth, Editorial Director at the Institute of Economic Affairs, said:
“A transactions tax is the worst kind of tax imaginable. Eating away at its own base it will undermine financial markets and leave consumers, including pensioners, to pick up the tab.
“It is a self-interested gimmick that is being pushed by the European Commission at the worst possible time. By the Commission’s own estimates it would probably raise no money but would divert resources from the nation states to Brussels.”

This leaves us with a question

How is Bernie Going to pay for college for all?

The foot note of the study saying "study paid for by the new york free commerce commission" kinda blew the "but we're not biased" status. Sorry, but paid studies are literally less valid than fox news, and thats saying something

"i hate when people steal.... because taxes are stealing, however using underhanded corporate strategy to scrape every single dime from anyone possible is completely fine AND ethical, as is hiding your earning with offshore accounts and outsourcing american jobs to china"

every study has to be funded. Literally every study ever done needed to be funded. If this study is invalid, then all government studies are invalid, as that's a government entity.

Taxes are stealing. If I don't pay them people show up and take the money via threat of force or jail.

What a strawman btw. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you support bernie. How to you justify bernie's plan to reduce job deportation while simultaneously raising the minimum wage over 100%?

You won't find any Republican who say shipping jobs overseas is good.

Don't you ever get tired of being wrong?

Free colleges have existed for over 200 years in the U.S.

I believe I've stated this countless times.

Free college exists in other nations. In some of the Scandinavian countries, students are even paid to go to college.

If it can exist somewhere else, then why can't it exist in what is supposed to be the greatest nation in the world?

All you ever do is just source the first thing that agrees with you because you're so desperate to be right even when you're wholeheartedly wrong. Hell, you don't even read nor understand your own sources and you expect anyone to take you seriously when you don't even understand what you're arguing?

I'm not gonna debate with you because it is a bore and it is a clinical hazard for my sanity.

You simply deny facts and don't listen to reason. No matter how many people give you legitimate facts, you always deny it and then you try to rationalize a situation in which you are right. It is pointless to argue with someone who only sees one side of things and does not understand what facts are, and goes out systematically looking for things that simply agree with them and not something that is objectively true.

Until you understand that you're wrong, you'll never be right.

Could you be any more of a cliche? I was going to say "all you need to do now is try to throw in the phrase "straw-man" but you beat me to it. A poli-sci and introduction to logic class and suddenly you're an expert.

A government study is funded by tax dollars. Just like roads, schools, you know, that "stuff from stolen money". Or when the republicans are in charge, tens of thousands of dollars for 11 different trials of Hilary clinton all ending without an indictment. THAT is stealing. However a government agency performing a study funded by a third party such as the new york free commerce commission is like when they ran ads in the 50's saying that tobacco was found to be safe, a study paid for by camel cigarettes.

Having the government assist you feed your children is stealing, however using the 200 million dollar "loan" from your father to start a number a failed businesses ripping people off with fake degrees at trump university and the like are fine.

Stop defending the rich. This world doesn't need billionaires. But please, keep the "informed redditor" tropes coming. Can't wait for your next forced logical fallacy name-drop

You're trying to re frame the argument.

Whether or not "free" education exists is one thing.

MY whole post is how bernie has proposed to pay for it isn't a way to generate revenue. How about you read How is he going to fund it? His pan would not work.

Btw there's a reason most European countries don't send anyone who wants to go to college to college for free. Because they don;t want to waste their money.

Tax services for some American's and not others based on test scores will never work in America

You actively search out sources that agree with your opinion and disagree with Bernie Sanders. That's called biased information.

You may try to flip that argument on me and say that I am biased as well, well you're not half-wrong. But the problem with that argument is that I didn't know who Bernie Sanders was when he first started his campaign and what made me support him was his policies and his propositions which were verified by many esteemed economists and trustworthy individuals.

Anyways I've said what I had to say. So I'm done here. Others have already beat me to the punch.

Keep believing in what you want, it's a constitutional right after all; but you'll still be wrong.

There is no parallel reality within an infinite multiverse that will make you right in this scenario.

As a matter of fact, I am not a bernie supporter. Not that i disagree with his ideals, and certainly not his tax plan. Merely because i think that hillary has the washington experience to play the game and get what she wants done better than bernie.

So when you make a strawman argument i'm supposed to just ignore it for risk of being a "cliche"?

Don't make silly arguments that no one would be on the other side of.

Prove to me that the New York Commerce Commission isn't tax funded.(thought I can't even find where it says where it's funded)

Welfare is killing those families in the long run but that's a different argument.

DO you understand what a strawman is? Do you really think I'd agree with ripping people off with fake degrees(something ecpi does all the time)? His father however worked for his money and can do with it as he wishes.

I'm not defending the rich. I'm condemning the middle 80% stealing from the top 10% to give to the bottom 10%.

Biting the hand that feeds isn't what gets you a better dinner every night. You act as if these people won't find other ways to hide their money...

You really want them to pay their fair share? Make a universal 25% tax rate.

If already costs them 50cents on every dollar to hide their money overseas not to mention the cost of lawyers. If you charged them 25% it would take away their incentive to hide their money at all.

your argument is that a study shows that tax plan will not generate revenue and offered a citation. I discredited that citation by demonstrating that it is funded by a privately owned third party (not tax funded, it isn't an agency, its a commission). A straw man argument would mean saying "I found documentation proving that bernie sanders has more economic experience than donald trump, so i'm right and you're wrong, declaring victory for winning an argument on a point not addressed in the discussion. My remarks were not only on topic, but if ANYTHING, the fallacy at play would be ad hominem, although thats still pushing it.

*learn the name of a single logical fallacy* *bend it to use semi appropriately in a conversation* *bask in the "he must go to college" praise*. If i didn't hear the term straw man in at least 30% of political arguments, maybe i'd call it a coincidence.

It is not stealing from the upper class. It is taxing them. the division of wealth in this country is broken. That 10% you're referring too has over 80% of all money influx to the country. Yet they are the same ones sending jobs overseas. They'll attack the mexicans for stealing jobs, but be the first ones to hire them at their own businesses (off the books and underpaid mind you).

If your defense of these "victims" hiding their money from the government is "well they still have to pay a hefty percentage to hide that money, still netting a gain at the governments expense" then you're dead in the water. Oh sorry, that wasn't a properly structured syllogism. here come the intro to formal logic crowd.

Lets stop with the very first argument

Commissions aren't tax funded?

Who funds the FCC? The federal communications commission? Oh thats right the federal government. You lose
