Before Tobi lost his mask who did you think he was?

I started to care a couple of chapters before and i was thinking about shisui

I thought it was Izuna from the start.
Then, after a few chapters before the man behind the mask reveal, I was pretty convinced that it was Obito..

Obito, Kakashi Gaiden made it so obvious. It's strange that everyone votes for Obito as far as I remember whenever I said that Tobi is Obito everyone went insane "LMAO IT'S MADARA" "NO IT'S IZUNA". Whenever someone said that it's Obito they got called "idiots,retards" and so on. Yes, I am still angry at them. =D

From the moment Tobi's Sharingan was revealed, I thought we were supposed to assume it was Obito. I mean... one eye-hole... one sharingan... the hair... and Tobi sounding super similar to Obito... the goofy personality... the Madara stuff always seemed like bullshit. I didn't know it was even up for debate until I started looking through Naruto forums.

I guess it could have been a cool plot twist if it hadn't turned out to be Obito, but I never realized that it wasn't supposed to be a given. I figured it was more of that 'the audience knows but the Naruto cast doesn't, so it builds the excitement as the audience waits for Kakashi's reaction to the reveal.' I didn't think it was supposed to be a reveal to the audience too...

The guy from Tobirama's squad is Kagami Uchiha. Him being fodder is highly doubtful because he was the father of Shisui and a student/partner of Tobirama..

it was a great writing on kishi's part.it was so obvious that he was obito.hints-
1. just showing kakashi gaiden before the start of part 2,where obito says he'll crush this ninja system.
2. His hair.
3. A sharingan in left eye,with same eye ability as that of kakashi,the vortex thing was always shown and the 1st time his sharingan was shown it was from kakashi's sharingan view.
and so many...
he writ the story giving hints everywhere yet in such a way that people started to torture their own mind.

I knew it was Obito from the very beginning for very simple reasons:

1. Kakashi Gaiden would not have been introduced in the Manga if it wouldn't play a significant role in the current timeline.

2. If All of the key players in Kakashi Gaiden (save for Kakashi himself) was dead, then there would be no ultimate resolution to the matter concerning Rin's death and Kakashi's failure to protect her and keep his promise to Obito, so logically, the offended party (Obito) must remain alive.

3. Considering that Tobi was introduced with the same goofball personality like Obito, the mask having the eye socket on the right side where Obito's Sharingan was still intact, and Kakashi's MS powers being in similitude with Tobi's, it's obvious that Tobi was really Obito.

4. From a writer's perspective, it would give more of a dramatic impact if Tobi was Obito rather than Izuna,Kagami,Shisui,etc. because once his identity was revealed, he would confront Kakashi and his failure to keep his promise to him.

b.) The mask comes off and underneath is Madara. He then summons the long haired tobi from the hidden mist, the black fire mask tobi that attacked Konoha and the good boy Tobi and they turn out to be respectively- Izuna, Shisui and Obito. Tobi turns out to not be a name, but a CULT and the reason we've seen Tobi in so many different masks, different voices and fighting styles is because they're all different people, all joint by their kamui. EVERYONE WOULD'VE BEEN RIGHT.

I KNOW RIGHT. Why can't good things happen. Because we could've still had the Obito/Kakashi conflict and the 4 Tobis couldve gone head to head with the four Hokage as there is one Uchiha for each generation.
